Lin Xianshun, a lieutenant colonel counselor of the 5th Brigade of the 737th Wing of the Kuomintang Air Force, was the last Kuomintang Air Force pilot to fly back from Taiwan to the motherland and surrender. Of course, the process of flying back to your home country is not simple.

Lin Xianshun was born in 1953 to a peasant family in Miaoli County, Taiwan Province. It can be said that Lin Xianshun is a native of Taiwan. However, his father is not a native of Taiwan, but moved to Taiwan from the mainland.
Lin Xianshun is not the only child in the family, he has a brother. Unlike him, his brother was not born in Taiwan, but came to Taiwan after he was born. Therefore, Lin Xianshun's brother has a very deep impression of the mainland of the motherland.
When Lin Xianshun was young, his father and brother often told him about their previous life on the mainland. Therefore, he knew from an early age that his hometown was not Taiwan, but the mainland on the other side of the strait. It was these descriptions given to Lin Xianshun by his father and brother that made him yearn for the other side of the strait.
Later, Lin Xianshun mentioned in an interview: "This innate sense of intimacy has always made me have a dream, hoping that one day I can use my own eyes to go to the mainland to take a look." Since he had the idea of wanting to go to the mainland, how to go to the mainland had become a question in Lin Xianshun's mind.
As far as cross-strait relations were concerned at that time, taking a boat was certainly not feasible. There is only one way to do it, and that is to fly over. Therefore, becoming a pilot was Lin Xianshun's first step towards the mainland of the motherland. After Lin Xianshun's continuous efforts, he finally succeeded in entering the Taiwan Air Force Officer School and learning flight techniques.
By 1976, Lin Xianshun graduated from the Taiwan Air Force Officer School in Taiwan, and was assigned to a flight base in eastern Taiwan, becoming a real pilot and starting to work in flight.

After working at a flight base in eastern Taiwan for a year, Mr. Lin was transferred to a military base in Taoyuan. After working in Taoyuan for four years, Lin Xianshun was transferred to other air bases as a pilot and flew.
Just at this moment, Lin Xianshun heard a news that shocked him very much. His old teammate Huang Zhicheng flew the plane to the mainland. Born in 1952 in Hengxian County, Guangxi Province, Huang Zhicheng was born into a Kuomintang air force family and was an excellent student until he graduated from the Air Force Officer School. In 1973, Huang Zhicheng became a Kuomintang air force as soon as he graduated.
During his tenure as a pilot, Mr. Huang flew five types of aircraft, flying more than 2,100 hours. At the age of twenty-six, he was promoted to major and later became a flight examiner.
Because all the military institutions in Taiwan at that time were controlled by the US military, the Americans were very unscrupulous in Taiwan, but no official dared to stand up and accuse the Americans of this very domineering behavior, but also look at the faces of the Americans.
This situation made many Kuomintang officers dissatisfied, and since Xu Tingze flew fighter jets from Hsinchu, Taiwan, to Longtian, Fujian Province, many pilots had the idea of defecting to the mainland.
In 1981, Huang Zhicheng flew from Taoyuan, Taiwan, across the Taiwan Strait to Fuzhou. He became the ninetieth Kuomintang air force personnel to fly the forty-second plane back into the arms of the motherland.

After arriving at Fuzhou Airport, Huang Zhicheng was warmly welcomed by the leaders and staff of the airport. Because of Hwang Chie-shing's departure, Taiwan's Defense Minister Ko Kui-won resigned.
Huang Zhicheng's defection to the mainland is incomprehensible to many people in the KMT, after all, many of his family members are serving in the KMT government. But for his friend Lin Xianshun, Huang Zhicheng's actions have strengthened his determination to go to the mainland.
In 1989, because of Lim Hyun-soon's outstanding performance, he was promoted to counselor at the air base. Because a large number of pilots had previously surrendered to the mainland, the Kuomintang government tightened its control over military personnel.
The content of the counselor's job is to publicize all the bad remarks on the mainland in order to strengthen the ideological education of the personnel of the air base. They were absolutely loyal to the Kuomintang and completely obeyed the orders of their superiors.
Because Lin Xianshun does not approve of this practice, he also does not want to do such a thing that violates his conscience, spreads wrong ideas and ideas, and makes his team members become people who do not distinguish between right and wrong. This made Lin Xianshun very distressed about the job of counselor, and his worldview and outlook on life were greatly impacted in this matter.
Lin Xianshun's life at that time was very torturous, and this torment was not only brought to him by his work, but also brought to him by life. At that time, Lin Xianshun was already married, but his relationship with his wife was not harmonious, and the contradiction suddenly broke out during this time, and the two people quarreled to the point of separation.
Under the dual oppression of work and life, Lin Xianshun's determination to fly to the mainland and visit his hometown has become even stronger. So, in February of the same year, Lin Xianshun came to the flight base on a day when the weather was very suitable for flying.
Although Lin Xianshun did not fly that day, when he went to the place where the plane was parked as usual to check, no one thought there was anything wrong with him.
Because Lin Xianshun usually works very hard and is very trustworthy, when he told the ground staff that he wanted to test drive the plane, the ground staff did not feel that there was anything wrong with it, so they did not take any precautions against him.
Lin Xianshun knew that his opportunity had come, so he couldn't wait to leave the plane. Five minutes after Lin Xianshun flew the plane, the plane flew into the Taiwan Strait very smoothly. At this moment, the pilot who was supposed to fly the plane found that the plane was missing, and he immediately reported the situation to his superiors.
When his superiors discovered that Lin Xianshun's plane was heading in the direction of the mainland, he realized that he was suspected of betraying the Kuomintang. So immediately dispatched 12 planes full of ammunition and equipment to pursue Lin Xianshun.
And issued an order that as long as Lin Xianshun's plane was found to be crossing the middle line of the strait, his plane would be shot down. However, Lin Xianshun is not a fledgling young pilot, he has a lot of flying experience.
He knew that his superiors would track him when they found out that he had fled to the mainland, so he turned off the radar on the plane. In order to be able to fly the plane without distraction and not be interfered with by people from the Taiwan government, Lin Xianshun turned off the communication equipment again. In this way, they not only could not find Lin Xianshun's plane, but also could not contact Lin Xianshun himself.
When the 14 planes tracking Lin Xianshun broke into the middle line of the Taiwan Strait, they were immediately spotted by the mainland army. Because it was not clear whether the planes that broke in were friend or foe, the mainland army immediately sent 4 combat aircraft to investigate the actual situation.
Unable to find Lin Xianshun's plane, and fearing unnecessary clashes with mainland fighter jets, the 12 planes that tracked Lin Xianshun were recalled. Lin Xianshun, who escaped from the pursuit, did not land immediately, partly because he was not familiar with the terrain of the mainland, and on the other hand, there was a sudden fog at that time, which made it impossible for him to find a suitable landing place.
Lin Xianshun, who had closed his communication facilities, contacted the mainland tower again, and seeing that he was about to run out of oil for the plane, Lin Xianshun found a relatively wide-looking area to prepare for landing.
At this moment, the plane malfunctioned and could not land normally. Forced to do so, Lin Xianshun chose to skydive. Finally, Lin Xianshun landed in Fengshun County, Guangdong Province.
Fortunately, the plane did not explode violently when it crashed to the ground, and Lin Xianshun had no other injuries except for a little injury to his arm.
Lin Xianshun recalled the scene at that time, saying:
"I ended up landing in a large paddy field, the plane crashed in the playground of a small school, and I landed with only a slight injury. A teacher on duty at the school came up to me and asked me which unit I belonged to, and they thought I was from the People's Liberation Army. I said I came from the Taiwan uprising. At first they didn't believe it and thought I was joking. Later, I noticed that my clothes were different, so I doubted the letter. Soon, the police from the local police station came, asked about the situation, and sent me to the county. ”
On the evening of Lin Xianshun's arrival in Fengshun County, a deputy commander of the Guangzhou Military Region arrived here by plane. And the next morning, he returned to Guangzhou with Lin Xianshun. On the plane, the deputy commander talked to Lin Xianshun about what happened when he flew the plane yesterday.
It turned out that after Lin Xianshun cut off the communication facilities, the plane that came to pursue him had already aimed its shells at his plane. But Lin Xianshun did not know, or even know that there were as many as 12 planes chasing him.
Lin Xianshun, who was originally injured and somewhat mentally ill, was very surprised when he learned that the planes of the Kuomintang and the Communists almost clashed because of him before his plane fell, and people suddenly woke up.
It turned out that so many things had happened after the closure of the communication facilities, and if it were not for the fighter planes of the Guangzhou Military Region taking off in time to check on the situation, he would not have been able to suffer only this slight injury as he is now, and he would certainly have been destroyed and killed before he flew over the mainland. Lin Xianshun suddenly felt that his back was a little cold.
The deputy commander was very worried about Lin Shunxian's physical condition, so after talking with Lin Xianshun, he sent him to the Air Force Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region for recuperation. During the recuperation period, military and political leaders in Guangdong rushed to the hospital to comfort Lin Xianshun's injuries and welcome his return.
Later, Huang Zhicheng, who was far away in Beijing, was very happy to learn that his friend had also come to the mainland, and immediately made a phone call to tell the old teammate who had not been seen for a long time. Subsequently, Lin Xianshun attended a press conference in Guangzhou.
The press conference was attended by journalists from Hong Kong and Taiwan, so Lin Xianshun issued a statement on the incident of his return to the motherland, indicating his attitude.
Lin Xianshun's return has filled the gap in the research of new aircraft for the mainland air force, and also allowed the mainland air force to have a deeper understanding of the secret base of the Taiwan Air Force. After recovering from his wounds, Lin Xianshun remained on the mainland and was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel by the government. Later, Lin Xianshun served as assistant chief of staff of the Air Force of the Beijing Military Region.
After Lin Xianshun's return, Taiwan's pilots no longer flew back to the mainland. So Lin Xianshun became the last Kuomintang Air Force pilot to fly back to the mainland from Taiwan.

In the mainland, Lin Xianshun not only has a very satisfactory working atmosphere, but also has a happy and happy family, and even in the interview, he can feel that he is very satisfied with his life now. He said: "The happiest feeling I have now is that I am a veteran of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, a happy husband and father in a small family. ”
Before Lin Xianshun's return, the state had revoked the reward for returnees. But Lin Xianshun still came back, he said that he did not return to the motherland for the sake of fame or promotion, he came back for his childhood dream.
As it turned out, he made the right choice. Lin Xianshun has always held that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the motherland. Compatriots on both sides of the strait are thicker than water and have always been one family.
But as he watched Taiwan, which had been away for more than three decades, gradually be controlled by the Pro-Taiwan Independence Democratic Progressive Party, Lin Xianshun was very worried.
Lin Xianshun's friends in Taiwan all felt that he had been brainwashed by mainlanders, but Lin Xianshun felt that it was not he who was brainwashed, but the Taiwanese who always had prejudices against the mainland. Now Taiwan has been deeply affected by the United States, and its economy has stagnated, even regressed.
Lin Xianshun, who returned to his homeland, never returned to Taiwan once, and he was very disappointed with the current situation in Taiwan. But even so, he still pays close attention to the dynamics of the two sides of the strait. He looked forward to the day when Taiwan would return to the motherland, and he hoped that the people of Taiwan would no longer sit back and watch the world and think that the mainland had brainwashed everyone.
