The Daily Mail reported on October 24 that former football star David Beckham, 46, has agreed to an endorsement deal worth £150 million, or about 1.3 billion yuan.
The agreement stipulates that David Beckham will become an ambassador for the Arab country of Qatar over the next decade, helping to promote Qatar's tourism and cultural activities, as well as becoming the face of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Earlier this month, Beckham was reportedly photographed having come to Qatar to take a variety of scenic photos, including some stadiums that will be used for next year's World Cup.
A spokesman for David told the media that David had been talking about the power of football on many levels. "In the coming year, David will join the wider world of football, they will come together for the 2022 World Cup and he is looking forward to what he thinks will be a very great game."
Beckham's relationship with the wealthy Arab nation dates back to his time at Paris Saint-Germain, and the deal was largely due to Beckham's close friendship with Qatar PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who played for the club in 2013.
In 2019, Beckham and Nasser Halafee were photographed laughing together at an international match in Qatar, and the relationship between the two looked very good, and Beckham has become a regular in the country. Meanwhile, Beckham will return to Qatar next month to watch the Formula One Grand Prix, hosted by the Desert Nation.
David Beckham also spoke highly of Qatar, saying: "From a player and fan's point of view, you want to visit a World Cup game with good equipment, safety, hotel and culture, and that's what Qatar is all about. I hope I'm still playing, because playing in a stadium like this is a dream come true and the players will be spoiled. "
