Stilt fisherman

Stilt Fisherman: The name stilt fisherman is translated from the English "Stilt Fisherman", it is said that fishermen who had no money to buy a boat before came up with this method, erecting wooden stakes in the offshore waves, and the fishermen waded into the water every day to reach the wooden stakes soaked in the seawater, climbed up, sat on a simple wooden frame, held a fishing rod without bait, sat on a wooden frame, waited for the fish to be hooked, and looked from a distance, like a group of anglers standing on stilts in the sea. Such a skill passed down from generation to generation must not only have a good balance ability, but also withstand the double test of sea breeze and sun, and at the same time pay close attention to prey in the turbulent sea, which is not a simple task. Sri Lankan stilt anglers are mainly concentrated in the shallow waters of the southwest coast, which can be seen from the Galle to the Mirissa coast. These anglers mainly come out early in the morning and night to fish, avoiding the scorching sun. Fishermen basically wade to reach the stakes soaked in the seawater, climb up, sit on a simple wooden frame, open the fishing rod, and then it is fishing time, and their target is a large number of sardines swimming in the shallow sea. Sometimes with luck, there are fish hooked every minute, and it is amazing to know that their fishing rods do not have bait.
