00 The Fool Fool

Veter tarot primer – Fool

Card Description:

Dressed in colorful costumes and wearing a laurel crown of success on his head, the fool ignores the cliff ahead and strides forward with his head held high.

In his left hand he holds a white rose, white symbolizes purity, and rose symbolizes passion. In his right hand, he gently holds a staff on which the burden of experience is attached. The staff was no ordinary staff, it was a token, a symbol of strength. At the fool's feet, a little white dog was barking wildly, as if to remind him of the cliff and to dance with him. In any case, the fool remained elated, looking at the distant sky rather than the cliff in front of him, as if an angel would catch him under the cliff, and he strode forward with his head held high. Distant mountains symbolize the unknown journey ahead of him, and the white sun witnesses the fool's every move from beginning to end—where did he come from? Where is he going? And how did he come back?

Card Deduction:

Fool is a very special card, its number is 0, in fact, it is not numbered, it can appear anywhere. Werther himself placed it before the World Card, but perhaps because the Fool symbolizes the beginning of his journey, it is now customary for the average person to put it in the first one. In addition, the fool himself can be used as a blank card, which contains infinite possibilities, just as it is numbered 0, the fool can be a complete circle or a zero--nothing. It can be good or bad, and there are two possibilities.

In fact, in some versions of tarot cards, the animals that accompany the fools are cats, or even crocodiles, which, whatever, symbolize instinct. Animals act by instinct, and so do fools. He is a newborn baby, as the saying goes, "the newborn calf is not afraid of the tiger", and the fool is such a young man who is not afraid of heaven. In divination, fools sometimes really represent newborns.

We can compare the way fools, magicians, and characters in the world card hold tokens, and the way fools hold their staffs is so careless that they are similar to the dancers in the world cards, and very different from the magician's conscious grip and good use. However, the world card is because the journey has been completed, the dancer in the card is free to dance with the token, and the naïve fool is not aware of the magic in the staff, so he uses it to hang baggage. The fool's baggage is filled with his experience, so he is not completely stupid, just not controlled by experience. The laurel crown on his head is a clear symbol of the possibility of success. As for the meaning of the pattern on the baggage, there are currently two versions of interpretation, the Golden Dawn system believes that it is a bird, symbolizing the wind element to which the Fool card itself belongs; the other says that it is the head of an eagle, symbolizing instinct and the soul of upward ascension. Wright said that fools are souls who seek experience.

The Fool's card corresponds to the wind element, free and uncertain like the wind. He is dionysius in Greek mythology, and can also be regarded as the father of the Sun chaser in Chinese mythology, Han Xiangzi in the Eight Immortals of Taoism, JiGong in folklore, and Zhou Botong in Jin Yong's novels. They all have the characteristics of being crazy on the outside, doing their own thing, reckless, and smiling and cursing. In divination, if the Fool's card represents a person, then the person may be in the form of an indefinite place on the outside, and a wild and uninhibited form on the inside. He loves adventure and will impulsively fall into love, but don't expect him to settle down, it is difficult to be responsible, and it is even more impossible to make him promise. He was carefree, bold because of simplicity, fearless because of innocence, and perhaps some impulsiveness, acting according to feelings, never planning in advance. Outsiders look at him as crazy and childish, not abiding by secular norms, often not playing cards according to the rules, speaking amazingly, acting blindly and not listening to anything. Still, he knew in his heart what he was doing. Maybe he has a goal, but that goal is different from the average person. In short, he is an optimist who lives in the moment.

Just like the Fool on the deck, who has just embarked on a new journey with his bag on his back, the Fool card can also represent a trip, especially a aimless, unplanned trip. When the Fool reaches the end of the cliff, he will jump into an unknown environment, so it also represents moving, transferring schools, and bold actions. Maybe the person concerned will see things as too simple, without careful thinking and planning, but we can't judge whether this is good or bad, we can only say that the potential is endless. At work, the Fool card indicates that you are in the same environment as a fool, or show fool characteristics at work, unless you are engaged in an alternative job that pursues creativity, otherwise the boss may not like it. In terms of feelings, the fool may represent a love affair on the journey, or a drunken person in this day, and the two do not consider the future. If the fool represents your lover, please enjoy the process and do not expect the result. The student asks about the exam, indicating that he is too unskilled or that he is preparing in the wrong direction.
