Matteus: Before joining Inter that year, I had the opportunity to move to Juve

Live bar March 16 - Inter veteran Mateus recently gave an interview to Kickers, admitting that he had the opportunity to join Juventus before joining Inter.

Mateus joined Inter Milan in 1988 from Bayern Munich and spent four seasons with the Nerazzurri, helping the team win the Serie A title in his first season. But Mateus said he had the opportunity to join Juventus a few years ago when he joined Inter.

Mateus said: "Every year there are offers from teams that want to sign me and when I was 20 I could have gone to Juventus and made more money. But money is not a decisive factor in any transfer, otherwise I would not have been able to go to Bayern in 1984, when I felt that I was not mature enough to play in Serie A. ”

Mateus returned to Bayern in 1992, but he revealed that he could have moved to Real Madrid the year before, saying: "I want to go to Real Madrid, I and Inter have won a lot of honours. I met in Geneva with then Real Madrid President Ramón Mendoza. ”

"We negotiated everything from contract to salary in less than two hours. Real Madrid were ready to sign me for 18 million Deutsche Marks, which was a huge sum of money at the time. However, Inter and Real Madrid were competing for Zamorano and then the club vetoed my transfer. ”

During his time at Inter, Mateus made 154 appearances for the team, scoring 53 goals and providing eight assists, winning one Serie A title, one Italian Super Cup and one Europa League.
