On February 7, 6450 pairs of gloves departed from Cambridge, England, and were transported to logistics warehouses. Their final destination is Wuhan Central Hospital in Hubei Province.

This is the third batch of materials sent to Hubei by the Cambridge Chinese Students and Scholars Association and the Oxford Chinese Students and Scholars Association, together with the Alumni Association of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the British Alumni Association of Peking University.

"Since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, we have been paying close attention to the situation at home and hope to make a modest contribution to the prevention and control of the epidemic." Zhu Geyunjian, one of the initiators of the activity and a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge, still remembers that on January 27, coinciding with the Cambridge Spring Festival Gala, he officially announced the launch of the activity at the Spring Festival Gala. On the day of the event, all the funds obtained from the on-site sale of lottery tickets were used to support Hubei's fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and the online fundraising platform was also opened the day after the end of the party.

After the activity began, the students encountered challenges from the source channels and logistics. "In the UK, the production and inventory of medical gloves, masks, protective clothing and other related materials are already limited, coupled with the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, many institutions and individuals have begun to purchase these supplies in the UK, resulting in a shortage. Some suppliers replied directly to us that they could not provide large orders because they also needed to leave the supplies to customers in the UK. Therefore, it takes a lot of trouble every time to purchase related materials. Zhu Geyun said.

How to transport the purchased materials back home from overseas is another difficulty facing everyone, "not a simple matter." According to Zhu Geyunjian, the process of transporting materials from the UK to the relevant hospitals in Hubei includes logistics in the UK, shipping from the UK to China, Customs clearance in China, domestic ground logistics, and hospital signing. "In this process, in order to ensure that the materials sent to the hospital meet the standards for the use of medical staff, the relevant procedures involved are very complicated." What is gratifying to everyone is that JD Group has provided a lot of help in the process of transporting epidemic prevention and control materials back to China.

Despite the multiple difficulties, everyone took active actions and raced against time to transport supplies back to China as quickly as possible. As one of the initiators of the activity, the executive committee of the Cambridge Chinese Federation of Students is mostly students at Cambridge University, and the coursework is very heavy, but in order to make a contribution to the prevention and control of the epidemic, they have squeezed out time to join this action. "What touched me the most were the individual students who were responsible for connecting with domestic hospitals, logistics and charity organizations. In order to improve the efficiency of communication as much as possible, because of the time difference, you can only choose to stay up late. For more than 1 week, the students only slept about 3 hours a day. Everyone has only one goal, that is, to deliver supplies to the hands of front-line medical workers as soon as possible. Zhu Geyun said.

With the joint efforts of everyone, since the launch of the "Rush to Hubei, Urgent" action, 2,000 pairs of gloves, 70 goggles and 1,783 sets of protective clothing have been successfully transported to Wuhan Tongji Hospital and Wuhan Central Hospital. A third shipment is currently being delivered. The 30,000 N95 masks ordered are also in transit.

"Next, the Cambridge China Federation of Students is mainly responsible for logistics and transportation, and the All England Huazhong University of Science and Technology Alumni Association is responsible for the procurement of large orders in collaboration with the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Alumni Associations in other countries and regions around the world." Zhu Geyun said.

Since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in China, Chinese students in Austria have paid great attention to it and are eager to contribute to helping the motherland tide over the difficulties. After learning that Hubei and other areas where the epidemic is more serious are in urgent need of medical protective materials, overseas Chinese in Austria and overseas Chinese studying in Austria have established a disaster relief material alliance and began to organize fundraising, and by January 26, the basic channels for purchasing, storing and transporting materials have been gradually established, laying the foundation for the domestic front.

In the early stage of preparation, more manpower and information were urgently needed, and the Vienna Chinese Students and Scholars Association immediately joined hands with the Austrian Student Federation and the local overseas Chinese community to quickly organize a volunteer team, among which there were many medical scholars who could provide professional support for the purchase of materials. Volunteers actively contact major manufacturers to find the source of goods through online search, personal visits, etc., after assembling, inventory, verification, record, to clarify what kind of industry the products conform to and the scope of application, after the information labeling, and then send batch to the domestic rescue frontline. Student volunteers also participate in the management and verification of donation accounts, and publicize the fundraising to ensure that the information is open and transparent.

On January 28, the first batch of donated materials arrived at the distribution center, was sent to Wuhan the next day, and arrived safely on February 1. On February 3, 4 and 8, three other batches of materials were sent to China. As of February 11, a total of 10,624 masks, 7,460 pairs of gloves, 315 protective suits and 666 goggles had been sent to China. Follow-up supplies are also in preparation.

In view of the peak of returning to Austria, the WeChat public account platform of the Vienna Chinese Students and Scholars Association released the "Vienna International Students Returning to Isolation and Home Guide", reminding those returning to Austria from China to take isolation and epidemic prevention measures, and announcing the way to ask for help to students in need. The Vienna China Federation of Students' Association public account platform forwards the latest circular of the Chinese Embassy in Austria on the prevention and control of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic every day, informs the students studying in Austria of the latest developments of the domestic epidemic situation, and provides information related to the new crown pneumonia released by the Austrian Ministry of Health to help everyone continue to study and live with peace of mind.

After the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Chairman Kawa Tim Yaobin of Osaka Dental University has been paying close attention to the development of the epidemic and asked Professor Fang Yiru, honorary president of the Alumni Association of Chinese Students of Osaka Dental University, to lead the Alumni Association to donate some materials needed for the prevention and treatment of the epidemic to the Dental Hospital of Wuhan University.

With the joint efforts of everyone, the first batch of medical supplies (10,000 surgical masks and 150 disposable surgical gowns) prepared in just two days was sent directly to the Stomatological Hospital of Wuhan University on January 31, 2020. The second shipment (200 disposable surgical gowns) was also dispatched on 6 February 2020. This is not only a heavy concern across the sea, but also a reflection of the responsibility shouldered by the same medical workers when facing illness, and an important witness to the friendship between China and Japan.

Osaka Dental University has always maintained academic friendly exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities, and has provided timely material assistance in the face of natural disasters in China on many occasions.

In response to the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Osaka Dental University will, as always, adhere to the friendship with China and work together again to defeat the epidemic.
