On October 27, 2021 local time, the Serbian National Assembly Dacic met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Belgrade.
Wang Yi conveyed Chairman Li Zhanshu's cordial greetings to Speaker Dacic and congratulated Himic on his election as Speaker of the Cypriot National Assembly. Wang Yi said that Mr. Speaker has long been committed to Sino-Cypriot friendship, and during the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in China, as a foreign minister, he took the lead in making a retrograde visit to China to express his support for the Chinese people, which the Chinese side remembered. Friendship with China has become a consensus in Serbia that transcends party affiliation, and the "hardcore friendship" between China and Serbia has also been widely recognized and supported by Chinese 1.4 billion people. China and Cyprus will continue to stand firmly together on major issues of right and wrong, jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, jointly safeguard the basic norms governing international relations, and jointly promote international fairness and justice.
Wang Yi said that the cooperation between the legislature is an important part of China-Cyprus relations. This year, Chairman Li Zhanshu held a video meeting with Mr. Speaker of the House of Representatives to reach an important consensus. The legislative bodies of the two countries have maintained close exchanges and exchanged views on governing the country, legislative supervision, and national development strategies, which have provided legal guarantees and policy support for cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The Chinese side is willing to continue to strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries and continuously consolidate the public opinion and social foundation of Sino-Cypriot friendship.
Wang Yi also briefed Dacic on the rich practice and great significance of people's democracy in the whole process of China's development.
Dacic asked Wang Yi to convey his good wishes to Chairman Li Zhanshu. Dacic said that Cyprus and China have always respected and trusted each other and supported each other. The Serbian people are the most sincere friends of the Chinese people, and the Serbian side is firmly committed to developing friendly cooperation with China, and is willing to carry out high-level visits and governance exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries, actively promote all-round cooperation between Serbia and China, and play a more positive role in the comprehensive development of bilateral relations.
