The DPP authorities threaten to file a complaint to the WTO on the mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office

Beijing, 29 Sep (China News Service) -- In response to the DPP authorities' claim that the mainland's suspension of the import of cherimoya and lotus mist from Taiwan is "undermining international trade rules, and threatening to inform the World Trade Organization (WTO) on this issue, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said in Beijing on 29 September that the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same China, and cross-strait affairs are internal affairs handled in accordance with the one-China principle. The relevant remarks made by the DPP authorities are precisely the political operations they have consistently sought for "independence."

The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference in Beijing on the same day, and Zhu Fenglian made the above remarks when answering relevant questions from reporters.

A few days ago, the General Administration of Customs of the Mainland issued a notice saying that quarantine pests have been detected from the soursse and lotus mist imported from the mainland from Taiwan for many times, and announced the suspension of the import of cherimoya and lotus mist from Taiwan. A reporter asked: What is the DPP authorities' comment on accusing the mainland side of "political suppression" and "harming the interests of the Peasants in Taiwan."?

Zhu Fenglian introduced the relevant situation on the spot, saying that since 2020, the mainland has repeatedly informed the relevant authorities in Taiwan of the unqualified imported fruits and reminded them to strengthen source control, but such a situation has not been improved. The General Administration of Customs has made corresponding circulars to the Taiwan side through the contact channels of the "Agreement on The Cooperation on Quarantine and Inspection of Agricultural Products Across the Straits." In the cherimoya part, 13 batches of unqualified situations were notified in writing to the Taiwan side, of which 11 batches were detected with ocean gluteal mealybugs, 1 batch was detected with ocean gluteal mealybugs and cocoa gall fungus, and 1 batch was detected with new pineapple ash mealybugs. In the lotus mist part, 6 batches of unqualified situations were notified in writing to the Taiwan side, of which 5 batches detected oceanic gluteal powdery beetles and 1 batch detected new pineapple gray mealybugs, which the Taiwan side did not give any feedback.

Zhu Fenglian pointed out: On the one hand, the DPP authorities claim to "sit down and talk," and on the other hand, instead of taking timely measures to improve them, they politicize necessary measures that have a bearing on agricultural production, ecological security, and the people's vital interests, and take advantage of the opportunity to maliciously smear the mainland and incite cross-strait antagonism.

Another reporter asked, "Taiwan farmers want to know which one of the next Taiwanese fruits will be banned by the mainland?" Zhu Fenglian responded that whether to suspend the import of other agricultural products from Taiwan into the mainland is decided by the competent departments in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations and standards of the mainland.

Zhu Fenglian also said in response to relevant questions that the mainland side has attached great importance to the interests and well-being of Taiwan farmers for many years, and has actively taken measures to help Taiwan farmers solve their worries and difficulties and help them expand the mainland market. On March 17 this year, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, and ten other departments, issued the "22 Measures for Agriculture and Forestry" to further provide equal treatment and create more development opportunities for Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan enterprises to participate in the high-quality development of agriculture and forestry and rural revitalization on the mainland.
