Pro League Memoirs: A Two-Line Legend

Author: Zero Guardian (CoBeT)

(viii) Two-line legend

In the early days of the professional league, the players in the multi-line competition were represented by the third-line champion in early 2003, Nada in the fifth-line top four in early 2005, The YeleOw in the third-line champion in early 2003, iloveoov and July in the three-line operations of OSL, MSL and iTV Ranking League in the summer of 2004, Reach in the autumn of 2002, and ChOJJa in the double-line final in early 2003.

But there was a player from France who, with his great talent, created a special two-line legend in the second half of 2002. The double line here does not refer to OSL and KPGA Tour, but to interstellar and Warcraft.

He has a once-legendary ID: Elky.

As early as 2000, Elky has emerged as a figure, in the WCGC 2000 French Qualifiers, Elky won the first place, representing France in the WCGC 2000. In February 2001, Elky represented the GG team in a friendly match against South Korea, where he defeated Eagle, one of the four major Terrans in Korea at the time. In 2000, Elky became the apprentice of ChRh, then a famous Random player who would later win the second iTV Ranking League. In June 2001, Elky decided to choose Terran after a NTT match against the Dutch Terran player who had won the third place in WCGC 2000. In October 2001, Elky entered the profession and eliminated Lee, Seung Duk, Enough, Taewoo and other top players at that time in the KBK Jeju Competition, and finally won the third place.

In the WCG 2001 World Finals, Elky eliminated the WCGC2000 champion Gorush to advance to the final, although he lost to Emperor Boxer in the final, but the title of non-Korean first already belonged to him.

In January 2002, Elky finished third at the GameBugs Starleague and reached the round of 16 in the first GhemTV Starleague. In the same season, Elky reached the round of 16 of the third iTV Ranking League. In the summer of 2002, Elky won the Gembc FATE League, which became his first major title in South Korea.

On July 1, 2002, Blizzard released a new warcraft III – Reign of Chaos, and Elky started practicing for the first time. In the same month, Ongamenet began a professional league of Warcraft, and Elky became the first player in history to combine both interstellar and Warcraft events. On 25 July 2002, Elky defeated Gerrard Werra, who later became the coach of the Hanbit Stars team, in the hanbitsoft Ongamenet War3 League group stage, and then won all the matches to advance to the final.

On September 12, 2002, Elky lost to Jeon Ji-yun in the Hanbitsoft OWL final and finished second. As an interstellar player in OWL, Elky has done wonders. However, the miracle continues.

Just after Elky finished runner-up in Hanbitsoft OWL, elky won the championship in the fourth iTV War3 League qualifier. It was elky's only Warcraft champion of his career.

Elky, who was in the Warcraft Pro League, also performed well in OSL in the same season. In the 2002 SKY OSL group stage, Elky advanced to the quarter-finals with a record of total victory, beating the top Zerg player Jinnam, the 2001 SKY OSL champion Garimto and the first GhemTV Starleague champion ArtOfHan. After beating ChOJJa and defending champion Sync in the round of 8, Elky advanced to the final four, becoming the second non-Korean player to advance to the top four of the professional league after Grrrrr.

Pro League Memoirs: A Two-Line Legend

Although Elky lost to Emperor Boxer in the semi-finals and lost to Storm YelOw in the third-place final, the brilliant record of reaching the top 4 in the two major events in the same season still became a legend in the history of the professional league.

In the following two years, Elky finished fourth in WCG2002 and fourth in Hanbitsoft War3 Pre Match, and scored Panasonic OSL, Olympus OSL, Mycube OSL and NHN Hangame OSL consecutively, becoming the non-Korean player who participated in OSL the most times. At the same time, Elky also scored in TG Sambo MSL and became the non-Korean player who participated in the most professional leagues.

Pro League Memoirs: A Two-Line Legend

In WCG 2003, Elky finished fifth. In 2004, the legend announced his retirement, transformed into Texas Hold'em, and won several championships in his poker career.

Elky's career is full of legends. However, he is not the best synonym for multi-line players. Among the first professionals to enter the profession in 1999, there was a fabulous player who created a miracle in 7 events during his career.
