The Metropolitan Festival is an event of the year where celebrities and artists go to great lengths to creatively interpret their subjects. Unfortunately, in view of the current global pandemic, this year's event has been postponed until further notice. But we can still celebrate its long (and stylish) history, so we can decide to do a retrospective along the Met Gala classic memories.
From Jenny Versace's 1990s dress to Last Year's Harry Stiles boots, I won't dwell on it, and it was the most golden moment in the history of the Met Gala. Let's take a look back at the red carpet leaders who impressed us.
Gianni Versace
Time: 1995
Why: If anyone can take off their leather pants, it's Gianni Versace. His Met Gala style, designed with a large black blazer and classic Loafers, is semi-casual but maximises sharpness.
Highlights: If there's one event that bravely challenges leather, it's the Metropolitan Festival.
André Leon Tully
When: 2004
Why: Fashion journalists know how to get in. Andre Leon Talley shook the 2004 gala with the final trench coat look: floor length, cape style and layered, over-exaggerated sleeves.
Highlights: Exaggerated silhouettes bring a lot of attention.
Alexander McQueen
When: 2006
Why: It wasn't easy to get into the film jointly, but Alexander McQueen and Sarah Jessica Parker mastered the art. The theme was "Tradition and Depravity in British Fashion", which they anchored in tartan-centric clothing.
Focus: Asymmetrical structures work wonders.
Mark Jacobs
When: 2012
Why: Marc Jacobs brings the confidence everyone needs to the Met. Anything is possible; Especially when it wore a design designed by Common des Garçons, lace-up, sheer, even his shining shoes were winners.
Focus: Less is more.
Roberto Bauer
Time: 2014
Why: There's nothing wrong with wearing a classic tuxedo, especially if you're carefully grooming your décor. Roberto Bolle, wearing gloves, said one could say it was made of jewelry, which added an experimental touch to his petite look.
The point: Accessories can also impress.
David Beckham
When: 2014
Why: Beckham likes to keep the classics. A bold monochromatic appearance is an attitude in itself. And, since the Met Gala is the most formal event of the year, you can't fit in better than a two-piece tuxedo.
Focus: Complexity is the camera grabber.
Ryan Reynolds
Why: Velvet is a fun, great choice for classic two-piece suits. Ryan Reynolds mastered the material here, bringing romantic colors to the red carpet through his oxblood bow tie.
The point: Velvet is always a good choice.
Zayn Malik
When: 2016
Why: The best sleeve ever at the Met Gala, Zayn Malik's 2016 debut, was a successful exponent of the tech theme. Wearing a single-breasted suit, he won the Men's Mechanical Award of the Night.
Highlights: Cuffs for individuality.
Didi
When: 2017
Why: The weather in New York can be a bit unpredictable, so we don't blame P. Diddy layered styling. Luckily, his coat selection is striking. Who would have thought that bare stitches could have such a shocking effect?
The point: The outer layer is never enough.
Rami Malek
Time: 2017
Why: Sometimes, the best way to make a statement is to adopt classic colors from head to toe. Rami Malek, who arrived in 2017, laid the red carpet and designed a slim dior suit for you. The perfect blend of classical and modern.
Highlights: Evoke the red carpet throughout the ensemble.
Virgil Abloh
Time: 2018
Why: We're all chasing seat belts this season, so who's better than the guy who makes them fashionable? Last year, Virgil Abloh ended his classic evening gown with embellishments, a subtle nod to religiously based subjects while remaining stylish.
The point: Seat belts are a good idea.
Bradley Cooper,Michael B Jordan和Chadwick Boseman
When: 2018
Why: Whether it's Cooper's classic choice, Jordan's pinstripe champion or Boseman's religious mastery, the male family has excelled last year.
The point: Wear a neat shirt to complement your outfit.
Troye Sivan
Why: What is the most romantic option? Customized Valentino. Last year, Troye Sivan proved the power of a suit replacement when he wore a red two-piece costume (a striking hue in itself), but was particularly striking through the satin belt and the cotton vest underneath, as well as the brogue on the feet.
Focus: Cut romantically.
Alessandro Michele and Jared Leto
Why: The heavenly body was the theme of last year, and the three won the big prize of the night for winning. There is a lesson to be learned from Michelle and Leto. Wear royalist threads on crowns, brooches, and Gucci from head to toe.
Highlights: This is the crowning event.
Jaden Smith
Why: Unconventional accessories are a big surprise. Jaden Smith's self-composing photographs speak for themselves, and iconic is definitely the word. Modeled in the combination style of Louis Vuitton, its arrival is epic.
Focus: Be yourself (literally).
Darren Criss
Why: Criss's suits are adorned with heavenly artwork when he has mastered the purpose of the Met Gala.
Focus: the courage to pioneer and innovate.
Billy Potter
When: 2019
Why: Billy Porter is no stranger to bold looks. Last year, he entered one of the most iconic entrances in the history of the Met Gala: carried by six people in an ancient Egyptian chair into the venue. He takes the gorgeous charm to the extreme with a decorative ten-foot wing embellishment and a beautiful combination of tight jumpsuits that are hard to beat.
The point: The bigger the better
Harry Stiles
Time: 2019
Why: Harry Styles, co-host of last year's Met Festival, once again confirmed his style with a head-to-toe Gucci combination. The all-black look, but the focus is on details: that bold cat bow, those sheer sleeves, a pair of pearl earrings and high-heeled boots.
The point: High heels change height.
Jared Leto
Why: Jared Leto knows how to perform and makes a style statement at once. Give an example? He arrived at last year's Met Gala, for which he put on a red Gucci gown draped in a jeweled corset, and he raised a decapitated head. We may be as confused as you are, but no one will soon forget it.
The point: Consider accessories.
