After reading Mr. Xu Yuanchong's translation of "Peony Pavilion", I found another book he translated, "Xu Yuanchong's Translation of the West Chamber".
If "Peony Pavilion" is a mysterious love story, then "West Chamber" is an urban reality love story, but the "city" in this story is set in ancient times.
The male protagonist of the story is Zhang Sheng, whose real name is "Zhang Junrui", and the heroine is Cui Yingying, the daughter of Xiangguo, which is different from Yuan Shu's love tragedy "The Legend of Yingying", and the love between the two is finally completed.
In the story, I found that the combination of the two of them is inseparable from three key characters: Sun Feihu, Red Niang and Zheng Heng.

As soon as Sun Feihu appeared, he was going to kidnap Cui Yingying as the lady of the village and lead people to besiege the Pu salvation temple. And I think that his series of actions is mainly to do two things: (one) to prove that Cui Yingying is beautiful; (2) to make zhang Sheng's relationship with Cui Yingying further.
Why is it said that the warbler is beautiful? First of all, Zhang Sheng and Sun Feihu both only saw her side, and they began to remember and sleep at night, which is described in the book as follows- "Eyebrows are green, lotus faces are born of spring, there is the appearance of the country and the city, and the color of Xizi is too true." Therefore, such a beautiful person, not only Zhang Sheng wants to marry her as a wife, Sun Feihu also has this intention.
But Sun Feihu is different from Zhang Sheng, he is a military general, used to go straight, unlike Zhang Sheng, who is always a bookworm, and wants to capture the heart step by step. Therefore, Zhang Sheng lived in the west wing of the temple, and Sun Feihu brought someone to rob his daughter-in-law, and it was this behavior that helped Zhang Sheng. One creates a crisis, the other resolves the crisis, so that Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying have a connection.

Cui Mu said that who can retreat from the army, so she gave her daughter Xu to him, Zhang Sheng tried to find a way to retreat from the army and save everyone, but in the end, Cui Mu changed her mind and wanted the two to be brother and sister. At this time, the red lady we are familiar with appeared.
Different from what she imagined, when she first met Zhang Sheng, Hong Niang did not like him, and joked that he was "a stupid corner who never married a wife at the age of twenty-three". But the red lady has a good heart, a scale in her heart, and a clear distinction between right and wrong.
When he saw that Because of Cui Mu's remorse and Cui Yingying's rejection of Zhang Sheng's intentions, Zhang Was not lightly ill, and the Red Lady gave him an idea, asking him to use the "piano tone" to convey affection and impress Cui Yingying.
Not only that, after Cui Mu discovered the meeting between the two, the Red Lady also boldly said bluntly, "Believers, the root of people." If a man has no faith, he must not..." persuade Cui Mu to marry her daughter. The Red Lady can be said to be the most critical character in the whole story. She is like a bracelet, without which even the most beautiful beads cannot be strung together. So, why has Zheng Heng also become a key figure?

Who is Zheng Heng? He was Cui Yingying's fiancé, originally the filial piety period had passed, and the two were going to get married, but he heard about Sun Feihu's siege of the temple, and did not come on time, until they were rescued, he came to the door and said that he wanted to marry a wife. Of course, he also knew about Cui Yingying's being promised to Zhang Sheng.
So he made up a story. After falsely claiming that Zhang Sheng had become a high school leader, he was ordered to marry the daughter of Shangshu and could not come back. It is difficult to judge whether others believe it or not, but Cui Mu believes it and immediately decides to maintain the original engagement and let Cui Yingying marry Zheng Heng. Fortunately, Zhang Sheng rushed back in time to lift the misunderstanding.
Originally, I hated the character of Zheng Heng, but when I thought about it carefully, I found that the timing of his appearance was just right, neither one point earlier, which blocked zhang Sheng's temple to save people's grace, nor one point late, waiting for the two to combine, so that the Cui family owed him human affection.
If Sun Feihu and Red Niang both created opportunities for Zhang Sheng, then the emergence of Zheng Heng is to clear the last obstacles, so that the future life of the two will become smoother and smoother.
The book "Xu Yuanchong's Translation of the Tale of the West Chamber" is read together in English and Chinese, and it is very interesting to read. Mr. Xu Yuanchong, as the Taishan Beidou of the translation industry, uses words accurately and close to life, even if people like me, who do not have a high level of English, can read the general meaning and enjoy the fun of reading in English.
Every relationship has to go through twists and turns, difficulties, or feel the pain of "very worried about a word, all night and day to sleep", as long as the two are single-minded, they can be like Cui Yingying and Zhang Sheng, and finally be happy together. Of course, I also hope that everyone can find the love in their hearts, accompany them for a lifetime, help each other to old age, and be happy and complete.
