Star Trek III Beyond the Stars is a film of special significance. First, because its release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the premiere of the Star Trek series, and secondly, because during the period between the preparation of the film and its release, the Star Trek family unfortunately had two stars fall. How do you take care of all aspects? This is undoubtedly a huge challenge for the creators! But fortunately, the writers and directors of this time are all die-hard fans of Star Trek, Simon Peggy (Simon Giant), the representative of the New Era A house, our captain Scotty; director Lin Yibin grew up watching ST grow up and has different special feelings; co-screenwriter Doug Rong is also an old fan of this science fiction drama. With three people who knew what they were doing, the Enterprise's adventure was clearly much more reliable. But how reliable is that? Maybe you've just seen it, maybe you've brushed two or three brushes, maybe you're still hesitant to make a choice, so let's sum it up!

"Star Trek: Beyond the Stars" combines 50 years of history and essence into a 2-hour movie, with unexpected plots, sincere laughs, and heartfelt tears. The most valuable thing is that when compiling the Easter egg/tribute collection, xiaobian found that "Beyond the Stars" more or less involved almost all Star Trek TV series, including the original series, "The Next Generation", "Deep Space Nine", "Voyager" and "Enterprise". Not only that, but the six movies of the original members, the two movies of the reboot series JJ, and even the fan drama have been taken care of.
You can never underestimate the power of the star fans!
No wonder Director Lin said that it seems to be filming a fan drama with an oversized cost.
So, let's take you to these wonderful (and even some unexpected) Easter eggs and tributes (divided into tributes/actors/music/others)!
Get ready to sail!
!!! 【Warning! Spoilers Ahead】!!!
★ Tribute class ★
The captain's torn yellow shirt
I have to say that in the reboot universe, the quality of the uniforms is all leveraged. Captain Kirk's uniform was only a few holes in after being attacked by the alien swarm. You know, in the original episode, Captain Kirk's uniform scrap rate was surprisingly high! Especially when the bridge was caught by the doctor for injections, the pieces of paper were generally pulled open. This has become one of the famous terriers of the original series. It seems that the captains of the two universes are still very similar in this regard, "I tore my uniform again..."
Day 966 of the five-year mission
When the original Star Trek series first met the audience (September 1966), the story was about the legendary five-year mission of the Enterprise led by Captain Kirk. After two films, the crew of the rebooted series finally embarked on a five-year mission to explore new worlds, discover new species, and new civilizations. At the beginning of the film, the five-year mission has been carried out for 966 days, that is, more than two and a half years. The number 966 is very exquisite! If you are careful, you will find that this combination is the same as the time we marked above that the original series was first screened. That's right, 966 (9/66) is a tribute to Star Trek when it first aired on television, in September 1966.
Sulu's daughter
Although the sexual orientation of Sulu in the Kelvin universe has changed, this does not affect the emergence of Demora Sulu. Sulu and her husband Ben raised a girl together, and the little girl's picture also took her place on Sulu's operating platform. I don't know if she will grow up to become an official of the Star Alliance in the future?
Sentimental birthday
How awesome is this birthday clip! It's a simple scene with laughs and tears, old bones' signature "Chicken Soup for the Soul", and Jim Kirk's unseen side. The whole scene suddenly reminds people of the 1982 proto Centaur's second film, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, which is also Kirk's birthday, and Old Bones gives him a bottle of wine (the famous Romulan blue beer, forbidden wine) and a pair of glasses (Kirk has reached the age of old flowers at that time). Kirk, who had been promoted to general, was not happy, because the admiral general generally stopped on missions, and he became sentimental as he thought about his future.
Similarly, in Beyond the Stars, Kirk drinks silently, misses his father, thinks about the significance of his joining the Star Alliance, and where he will go in the future. And old bones, our "Mr. Sensitive" bless the young captain "to wish you perfect eyesight and a thick hair." How subtly echoed that reading glasses in the main universe.
Chekov's Scotch whisky
We all thought Chekov preferred vodka, but he didn't expect him to hide such a good bottle of whiskey! In any universe, the Russian genius has an extraordinary understanding of the fine traditions of his homeland. At the end of the film, you'll see him talking to an alien lady who says, "Scotch was made by an old lady in Russia." And this quote comes from the most famous episode of the original series, The Trouble with Tribbles (S2E15 Hairballs), where Chekov told Scotty in the bar of the Deep Space Seven space station, "Whiskey is inwented by an old lady in Leningrad."
Yorktown Star Station
Isn't this star station so beautiful! Its name, Yorktown, is a big deal. In the script first created by Gene Roddenberry, the father of Star Trek, the protagonist of this space exploration story is a spaceship called "Yorktown", captain Robert April.
And this star station itself, on the edge of the star alliance territory, gathered too many races from the surrounding areas and even farther away. Here they travel, study, visit, and promote their planet, which is the tentacle of the Star Alliance in outer space, and these peoples are united under the banner of the Star Alliance. And this is exactly what the villain of this film is against. Some friends feel that the existence of this star station itself is the best tribute to "Deep Space Nine", and it is not unreasonable to listen.
50 years and 50 alien races
Although we don't know what race they are, what their names are. But to commemorate Star Trek's 50th anniversary, the designers and creators worked together to create 50 different aliens, most of which are on the Yorktown Star Station. See how many you can count?
Finnegan in Yorktown
Greg Grunberg, a close friend of J.J. Abrams' who is a frequent feature in his work, finally made a positive appearance in Star Trek this time, after he provided a voice for Kirk's stepfather in the 2009 film. This time he played the commander of Yorktown, in charge of day-to-day affairs. However, the commander's name is very interesting. His name was Finnegan. If you're familiar with the original series, you're no stranger to the name. He and Kirk were enrolled at StarLink Academy at the same time, and spared no effort to trick Kirk, such as secretly putting a bowl of cold soup on his bed or a bucket of water on the door. In the original series Shore Leave (S1E15), Kirk once again encounters his "old enemy" from his college days on a planet where imagination can become reality. However, it seems that in the parallel universe, Finnigan seems to be a promising Star Alliance official, and I wonder if he and Kirk have also intersected in the Academy?
The Captain's morale-boosting remarks
On the mission to take the Enterprise into the asteroid belt, Captain Kirk gave a very philosophical passage, saying, "There is no real unknown, just temporary hiding." (there's no such thing as unknown, only things temporarily hidden)”。 This passage is completely copied from the original episode, the tenth episode of the first season, The Corbormite Manuvuer, after being threatened by the strange-looking alien Barook, the captain speaks to the whole ship, saying the above passage, encouraging everyone not to be afraid.
Spock and Old Bones
There has always been such a saying, Spock and Leonard." Old Bones" McCoy was like an angel and a devil on Kirk's shoulder. One emphasizes the supremacy of logic, and the other is full of rich feelings. In the original series, two people talking is a great attraction. Finally, in the rebooted version of this part, we were lucky enough to see the interaction between them. Spock is injured, the two are trapped, and the conversation between the two is reminiscent of many original scenes, such as All Our Yesterdays (S3E23) where the two of them are trapped in the Ice Age, in Bed & Circuses (S2E25) and the two are in prison, and so on. I am grateful to the screenwriter for allowing the relationship between the Iron Triangle to be interpreted in this film.
USS Franklin NX-326
The ship itself is a tribute to the Enterprise series, resembling the earliest Enterprise NX-01, the first human spacecraft to reach warp level five and have the ability to explore deep space. According to Beyond the Stars, the Franklin was the first spacecraft to reach a warp speed of four, but it unfortunately disappeared during the mission and was never heard from again. And its registration number is even more mysterious. Why NX-326? Because March 26 is Spock, it's also the birthday of his actor, Leonard Nimoy. The name of the spaceship, Franklin, is a tribute to his father, Frank Lin (see other classes below for more names).
Combined
After Scotty had finished teleporting the Doctor and the First Officer, he said that he had to come one by one, because the Ancient Teleporter was not very stable, and he was afraid that passing two people at the same time would make them combine into one. This, in fact, is a well-intentioned Easter egg that is buried quite deeply. Because in the main universe, the doctor and the first officer used to really exist in one body at the same time. In Wrath of the Khan, Before sacrificing himself, Spock fused with old bones to Vulcan's mind, placing his soul (Katra) in the doctor's body, which carried two souls. Later, in order to save his two friends, Kirk stole the soon-to-be-decommissioned Enterprise spacecraft, and took the bridge group to the Forbidden Genesis Star to retrieve Spock's flesh and bring it back to Vulcan Star. There, the Vulcan elders performed an ancient reincarnation ceremony that reunited the first mate's soul and his body, and liberated the old bones (Stone Breaker). What do you think? Doesn't this story sound pretty good? Then hurry up and make up for it
Abronath
The ultimate weapon in the movie. It is a two-part biological weapon that can release smoke and destroy the organic creatures that touch it. Originally created by The Ancient Ones, a settler of the star Altamid, the weapon was later split into two parts and thrown into different star domains. This, sounds a bit familiar. It's really like The Next Generation Season Seven Episode 45 Gambit Part I & II. Picard Captain Joshua dresses up to find out the whereabouts of a secret weapon, and the Romulans try to piece together the ancient Vulcan weapon, the Stone of Gol. When the three pieces are put together intact, this weapon can launch a very powerful spiritual attack, and a single thought can kill all the elders of the Vulcan Council. Therefore, one from the material level, one from the spiritual level, Xiaobian privately feels that there are still many similarities. Maybe they got their inspiration from this.
Disc end separation
When Silver Lady was crumbling from the attack, the captain and Uhura performed a move to separate the ship's saucer and tail. In the 23rd century, such orders are often very dangerous, almost a final struggle, and this would have been the first time such a scene appeared in the episode of the main cosmic primordial series The Apple (S2E5), but due to cost issues, it was not filmed, but only verbally mentioned. It wasn't until decades later, in the first episode of the Next Generation series, that we really saw the legendary disc-tail separation. In the 24th century, the next generation, this feature is already a regular tactical feature on Galaxy-class ships such as the Enterprise-D. Both the disc and the tail have a basic system that can be guaranteed to operate independently for a long time, or it can be recombined back into a complete ship.
The Enterprise disc crashed
The silver lady's incense disappeared, and the dish fell on the Altamid, which made people sigh. And this crash has to be reminiscent of her fate in parallel time and space, and the disc of the Enterprise 1701-D in the seventh film of the main universe, "Generations", crashed in a similar way.
Big green hands
Probably the most talked about Easter egg! Of course, it's from Scotty again! It seems that Simon Juju really kept all the good lines to himself (Chris Pine's joke at the Beijing press conference). This so-called green hand refers to the content of who mourns for Adonais in the second episode of the second season of the original series. While investigating an M-class planet, the Enterprise was suddenly caught by an energy field in the shape of a large green hand and could not break free.
And this big hand will also appear at the end of the film, a very short time. Two brushes and three brushes can pay attention to the appearance of Paramount Pictures/Bad Robot at the end of the film, from the bottom left of the screen there will be a big green hand outstretched, a flash, don't blink!
Background of the laborers
While serving as Barzesa Addison, he served for M.A.C.O., an armed group that united Earth before the star alliance was founded. The organization is mentioned on the front or side in several episodes of the Enterprise series, who followed the Enterprise NX-01 on a mission to Delphic Expanse (The Expanse S2E28) and rescued the trapped Captain Aceh and Lieutenant Colonel Tucker. Addison was a member of this organization, having fought against the Newlands and even participated in the Romulan Wars. But after the star alliance was founded, the organization was dissolved. Because the Star Alliance carries the banner of peaceful exploration, in the era of peace, where do soldiers go? Addison was appointed captain of the Franklin as a Star Alliance hero, and peace and exploration made him unable to adapt at once before gradually embarking on a twisted path.
Former captains who went bad
Why does Beyond the Stars feel like an original episode? The villain plays a big role. This is not the first time that the once heroic Star Captain has become the villain in the story. For a variety of different reasons. For example, Captain Kirk's idol in the original For Whom God Destorys (S3E14), the hero of the Four Years' War, Garth of Izar. But he changed his temperament, went crazy, and tried to seize control of the Enterprise. And Balzesa Addison, that is, the labor is not like this. Born in the military, in peacetime, he is not adaptable to various kinds, and he cannot accept the principles of star alliance peace exploration. In the end, because he was trapped on other planets, he continued to suck the lives of others to survive until now. Welcome to the Former Captains Villains Club, And for!
Scotty and computer
It's a small point, probably unintentional, but keeps familiar fans happy. Before Scotty could prepare to deal with the Yorktown computer system, he moved his knuckles. It may be a small inadvertent gesture, but it has to remind fans of Scotty's return to the 20th century greeting the computer in his fourth film, The Voyage Home. When he noticed that the computer wasn't taking voice commands, he moved his knuckles and started crackling on the keyboard.
Admiral Perris
The female commander of Yorktown is called Commodore Paris, and when you hear this surname, it is easy to think of Tom Paris, the helmsman of Voyager. At the round table in Beijing, we specifically confirmed this to Simon. He said it was indeed a tribute to Voyager, who would be Tom's elder, possibly his grandmother.
Spock's family portrait
From the original fifth film, "The Final Frontier", it is a promotional photo of the film. Lin Dao said that this one was chosen among the many photos because it looked like a random group photo between friends and family. They also tweaked the colors during post-processing to make it look more like a personal item.
Dr. McCoy's personal trinket
In this crew, in addition to Simon, another super Star Trek fan is Karl Urban, who plays Old Bones. He portrayed Dr. McCoy so well, so much like the original junior High School Deflest Kelly, that leonard Nimoy, the original Spock actor, couldn't help but cry after seeing the doctor in the 2009 movie. And Karl will also come up with the idea of a tribute. For example, in this one, at the end of the party, he opens the neckline of his clothes to reveal the necklace, such a casual clothing style is a tribute to Defleet's image in the first film "Infinite Space", although there is no beard. In addition, In order to completely restore the doctor, Carl even wore a tail ring. At that time, Defrolist once said that if he was not allowed to wear the ring left by his mother, he would refuse to play the doctor, so in the series, Old Bone always wore the ring.
Respect for the friends who have passed away
At the belated birthday party, everyone raises a toast to their deceased friends. The scene is familiar. In 1984, there was a similar scene in the third film of the original Centaur, "The Search for Spock". The Enterprising crew, who had just returned from Genesis, had lost their friend Spock, and the Enterprise was facing imminent retirement, gathering at Captain Kirk's home to raise a glass to their absent friends.
Of particular note is that in Beyond the Stars, when this sentence is finished, the camera briefly turns to Chekov. In an interview, Lin Dao revealed that this was an adjustment made after the unfortunate early death of Chekov's actor Anton Eugene. So tear-jerking.
★ Actor class ★
◈ Director Lin once released this behind-the-scenes photo on the "First Type Of Contact Day" to let fans guess who these two aliens are. The one on the left is Danny Pudi, who played Abed in Scrap Wood League, and on the right is Kim Kold from the Rush series. Although Director Lin is best known for the Quick Shock series, before that, he also directed the most classic "Paintball Wars" episode in the American drama "Waste Wood Alliance".
◈ Lin Dao's son. The little green big-eared boy appeared in Yorktown. Because his son has always wanted to play Master Yoda, but has no chance, so here he makes him have a green-skinned alien addiction.
Amazon's president, Bezos, plays a Union star official in Yorktown, wearing a translator for Kalara, pretending to be a refugee.
◈ The green-skinned Orion female crew member on the Enterprise is played by Fiona Vroom, a name you may not know, but if you have watched the fan drama "Continue the Original", you will find that the heroine of Lou Lanni in this episode, the heroine of the orion slave Lou Lanni who fights for freedom, is officially this Fiona Vroom. I didn't expect that even the fan drama was taken care of!
◈ Does Sulu's husband Ben on the screen look familiar? That's right, he was made a cameo by Doug Jung, another screenwriter of the film.
★ ★ Music
Music please poke: @Games
The music of "Beyond the Original" is also a tribute to the original series. A lot of the bridges recreate the music that Alexander Courage made for the 60s TV series, and the orchestra + vocal chorus + ding-dong sound effect makes people feel like, hey, this is not other space war science fiction drama, this is Star Trek!
The following two are obvious bridge segments:
▲ Jeira notices that someone has broken into her trap, and with Scotty carefully approaching, the melody begins to become tense. However, as soon as he turned around, he found that it was Kirk and Chekov who were frozen! Here comes a short, light piece of music. From the original Shore Leave (S1E15) episode.
▲ When the Enterprise first arrived at the star Ofaltamid, it used a small segment in the middle of the game from Infinite Space (the ding-dong section). About 3 minutes later, there is a sense of fear of the unknown in space.
★ Other classes ★
▼ Koji bubble
Finally, the warp speed is not a sudden disappearance, or dragging two shiny tails, but really has a special effect like the principle of warp speed.
Warp speed, a "faster-than-light" travel method used by starships in The Star Trek universe, was invented in 2063 by the famous scientist Zefram Cochrane, and since then humans have entered the era of deep space exploration.
The working principle of warp speed is difficult to say, but in short, it is that first of all, the spacecraft has a warp engine, which relies on the action of matter and antimatter under the control of lithium crystal to generate huge energy. The engine drive causes a subspace bubble called a "curved force field" to form around the spacecraft, and the bubble distorts the space-time continuum and pushes the spacecraft forward at high speed.
▼ Vokaya
The "Radioactive Jewelry" + "Tracking Device" that Spock gave to Uhura was a gem called Waclaya that originally belonged to his mother, Amanda Grayson. The name comes from the fan encyclopedia site Alpha Memory creators Daniel and Harry. When Simon Peggy was writing the script, he asked the two fan experts for help in naming it. Vokaya comes from the Vokau-heya language, which means "stone of remembrance" or "stone of memory" because this ore comes from the nuclear bomb explosion before the Vulcan Surak Reforms.
▼ "Skip To the End" (skip to the end)
A famous line from Simon's earlier work Spaced. In the movie, Captain Kirk says this line to Spock.
▼ As mentioned earlier, the Franklin was named after Frank Lin, the father of Lin. And there are many more named after his family, Simon revealed a lot at the Beijing Round Table. For example, the M-class planet to which the Enterprise traveled was called Altamid, and the name was the alphabetical order of simon's daughter Matilda. The name of Captain Syl of the Enterprise "Crab Head" is from Sylvie, the daughter of Doug Rong. Although jaylah's name was previously said to come from Jennifer Lawrence, while in Beijing, Simon said that Jaylah's name came from another daughter of Doug. And where did this Kelvin of the Kelvin timeline come from? This is actually the name of the grandfather of JJ Abrams, the director of the last two films and the producer of this one. Now the name becomes the name of the entire timeline.
Congratulations on finally seeing the end! Does it feel like you've followed the movie through 50 years of Star Trek history? So it's logical to watch and feel these episodes, and what they've brought to society over the past 50 years, to think about it, and, of course, to that wonderful future!
This Easter egg collection is certainly not the most complete, welcome to the private message @Star Trek China to add what we didn't find!
Go two brush three brush N brush up!
