Ningdu County is located in the southeast of Jiangxi Province, the northeast of Ganzhou City, on the banks of the Meijiang River, a tributary of the Gongjiang River. It is bordered by Guangchang County of Fuzhou City and Shicheng County of Ganzhou City to the east, Ruijin City and Yudu County to the south, Xingguo and Yongfeng Counties to the west, and Le'an, Yihuang and Nanfeng Counties of Fuzhou City to the north.
With a total area of 4053.16 square kilometers, the county is the largest county in Gannan and the third largest in Jiangxi. At present, it administers 12 townships of Meijiang Town, Changsheng Town, Qingtang Town, Huangpi Town, Gucun Town, Laicun Town, Shishang Town, Dongshanba Town, Luokou Town, Xiaobu Town, Huangshi Town, Tiantou Town, Zhudi Township, Xiangfang Township, Guhou Township, Tianbu Township, Huitong Township, Zhantian Township, Xiaotian Township, Diaofeng Township, Anfu Township, Dongshao Township, Dagu Township, caijiang Township, a total of 299 administrative villages and 35 neighborhood committees, and the population distribution map of each township is as follows.

The county is mainly hilly and mountainous, surrounded by mountains in the east, west and north, the terrain is high in the north and low in the south, high in the east and west, and low in the middle, and the terrain is similar to Jiangxi. Originating from the Meijiang River in Wangpi Ridge, Xiaotian Township, it flows from north to south through Xiaotian, Luokou, Dongshanba, Shishang, Huitong, Meijiang, Zhudi, Changsheng, Tiantou, Huangshi and other townships, forming a basin with a southern opening.
The population of the county is mainly distributed in the southern townships. The townships with more mouths include Changsheng Town, Laicun Town, Qingtang Town, Huangpi Town, Gucun Town and other townships. Among them, the registered population of Changsheng Town and Laicun Town exceeded 60,000 people.

Ningdu County has a long history, is the early residence and distribution center of the original people of China to move south, is an important birthplace of the Hakka people of Gansu, Fujian and Guangdong, and is known as the ancestral land of Hakka. Ningdu has a collection of humanities and a prosperous literary style, and has emerged celebrities such as Wei Xi, a famous essayist in the Qing Dynasty, and Luo Mu, the ancestor of Jiangxi landscape painting in the Qing Dynasty, and is known as the country of Wenxiang poetry.
