"May we tide over the difficulties together, may we all dream come true..." On February 6, an email signed "35 medical staff of the first echelon of the first echelon of Lan university hospital" was quietly sent to the hospital mailbox. The letter thanked all the "behind-the-scenes" heroes of the hospital and cheered on all the medical workers who are fighting on the front line.

On February 5, the medical staff of the first echelon of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University successfully completed the first phase of the rescue and treatment task and began to isolate and rest.
On January 23, the day of Chinese New Year's Eve, when everyone was reunited with their families, 35 medical staff from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University rushed to the forefront of pneumonia prevention and control of the new coronavirus infection. After 14 days of hard fighting, on February 5, they successfully completed the first phase of rescue work, temporarily withdrew from the "battle", and rested in isolation.
What did they go through in 14 days and nights? And what are the hidden hardships? Their stories are a microcosm of the battles fought by many medical institutions and medical personnel.
Steep, steep, sudden, 100,000 fires
"The emergency department has all moved and the fever clinic has been renovated." On January 21, Rezelin, deputy director of the Medical Department and an expert in respiratory medicine, received an order;
"Prepare to enter the isolation ward." On the same day, Li Junfeng, deputy director of the Department of Infection, received a notice;
"Layout and sort out fever clinics and refine processes." Wu Xiuying, 56, the head nurse of the first ward of the infectious disease department, quickly took her place;
……
Hu Jianmin, Pu Jiayuan, Gong Xia, Hu Shasha, Xue Haixia... The first group of 35 medical staff quickly assembled.
Wu Xiuying wrote the name on the clothes of each team member.
On January 21, when the first hospital of Lan university was identified as a provincial designated hospital, the whole hospital entered a state of emergency. Everyone knows that the battle has begun!
At about 7 a.m. on January 22, Rezelin came to the emergency department to see how the renovation work was progressing. What he did not expect was that the fever clinic here was still undergoing intense transformation, and there were already two patients on the other side.
The fever clinic staff was not yet fully in place, and Rezelin decided to see the patient first. At 10 o'clock in the morning, Lei Zelin, who was busy seeing a patient, received a notice that he was in charge of fever diagnosis, and coordinated the establishment of a ward as soon as possible to make the ward meet the requirements of the infectious disease area. When the doctor sees the doctor, there is no problem; when the person in charge is the general coordinator, I am worried. With this mood, Rezelin "put on the battlefield".
On January 23, Wuhan was "locked down", followed by a large number of patients flocking to wuhan.
"There are too many patients, more than 100 a day, nearly 50 people come directly from Wuhan, some have contact with Wuhan personnel, and even some come to the doctor because they are worried about eating Wuhan duck neck."
Fever clinic collective.
"The first few days were really stressful." For Rezelin, who fought against SARS 17 years ago, the pressure is more to ensure that "no diagnosis is missed" when the initial conditions are not perfect. The number of observation wards is limited, the amount of throat swab test strips is limited, only highly suspected can be done, in order to prevent cross-infection ordinary CT can not be used, can only rely on chest x-ray ... All of this can only make Rezelin and his colleagues more cautious.
No line, re-pulled; the ward did not meet the requirements, changed and changed again... 24 hours a day, change at any time, ready to install. The whole hospital is in a race against time.
"I don't think my lover's situation is quite right." On January 23, when Rezelin was listening to the inspection team in the corridor, a patient's family member approached him to express his concerns. This is a couple from Wuhan, returning to Yongdeng to visit relatives. On the same day, I was treated in the first hospital of Lan University, and after taking a chest X-ray, it was not good, and the doctor opened a CT examination. When they saw the test results sent to their mobile phones, the family members of the patients who were also doctors had a bad premonition.
Rezelin (left) performs a throat swab sample.
"Oh my God, this is the typical manifestation of pneumonia infected by the new coronavirus." Rezelin hurriedly opened the computer, and the moment he saw the film, he determined that it was a highly suspected case. Subsequently, the patient is immediately sent to the isolation ward for observation and waiting for diagnosis. Later, after a throat swab nucleic acid test, the patient was finally diagnosed.
"The screening of the first highly suspected case is of great significance for our subsequent diagnosis, and it also reminds us once again that it is unreliable for early or mild patients to diagnose by chest x-ray." Rezelin said.
Dedicated CT channels, CT rooms were built, isolation wards were in place, the level of protection was improved, and medical training was upgraded... After three or four days of transformation and run-in, the entire fever clinic is more formal and the process is smoother. "I have more confidence in receiving patients!" Only then did Rezelin, who had not closed his eyes for several days and nights, feel more at ease.
Since then, although the number of fever clinics per day has remained at about 100, all work is on track and in an orderly manner.
It's not just viruses to defeat
"At that time, everything was unclear, including whether the virus had other ways of transmission, whether the patient had other symptoms, and how to deal with it." Li Junfeng, head of the first batch of isolation ward medical team, said frankly that as the first batch of medical staff to enter the isolation ward, everyone is under tremendous pressure, and various tasks such as process, protection, diagnosis and treatment need to be constantly explored and run-in.
On January 23, as the first highly suspected patient entered the isolation ward, Li Junfeng and his colleagues were already in place.
Rounds, adjustment of treatment plans, communication with specialists... It makes up Li Junfeng's daily work. In order to ensure the treatment effect, the treatment of each patient is not only "one person and one party", the hospital also forms a strong team of experts, every afternoon will conduct MDT multidisciplinary discussions, at any time to grasp the patient's condition, prejudge the development of the disease, and the TCM experts outside the hospital will also consult with the patient regularly.
Li Junfeng (first from the right) and the team discuss the diagnosis and treatment plan.
"The vast majority of patients come in and are very nervous." With the increase in patients, Li Junfeng realized that they had to defeat not only the virus itself, but also help patients overcome the panic caused by the epidemic.
"A lot of suspected patients collapsed the moment they heard the news of their diagnosis." Every time she saw such a scene, Hu Shasha, deputy head nurse of the infection department and head nurse of the first ward of the isolation ward, was as tormented as the patient. "There is a big sister with high blood pressure, who was detected at a relatively high body temperature during the pre-examination of the hospital and was kept under observation, but after the diagnosis, she always did not want to believe it, and when she saw that we were fully armed, she was very scared and cried."
Husasha (right).
Hu Shasha and the nurses repeatedly explained the results of each examination, slowly dispelling the patient's concerns, and the patient was willing to let the medical staff approach. "Accompany her when she's crying, pull her hands after treatment, prepare her what she likes to eat..." Every detail makes the patient feel more secure.
In the isolation ward, a 50-year-old patient could not sleep all night, Li Junfeng and the team thought of many ways, even the effect of the drug was not good. Li Junfeng and the medical staff took turns chatting with the big brother to divert his attention, and after more than two days of psychological counseling, the patient's mood slowly stabilized, and the treatment effect also came out.
"How did you feel today?" At 10:00 p.m. on February 5, the first night of isolation and rest, Li Junfeng sent a WeChat message to the patient, and he did not receive a reply for a long time. "Dr. Lee, I fell asleep last night." The next morning, when he received the patient's reply, Li Junfeng was even more relieved.
In isolation wards, walkie-talkies are standard. It is often seen that medical staff communicate with patients through the window with walkie-talkies, talking about not only the condition, but also about school, family, and hobbies. Not only that, many medical staff also leave the phone to the patient and add WeChat with the patient. Every night, medical staff will call patients to help them get rid of loneliness.
On 2 February, the first cured patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital. That night, Li Junfeng received a text message from the patient: Although I don't fully know the names of each of you, and even the appearance is not clear, I have every action and every detail of you in mind.
On February 2, the first cured patient was discharged from the hospital, which doubled the confidence of Li Junfeng and the team.
On February 5, before leaving the isolation ward, Husasha went to say goodbye to a patient. The patient said to her through the glass, "I don't know what you look like, but I remember the curved eyebrows you had when you laughed." ”
"After more than ten days of treatment, we and the patients have become comrades-in-arms and friends, which is really good." Li Junfeng said. Isolation ward, isolated by the virus, but can not stop love and warmth.
Experience once, unforgettable for a lifetime
"14 days of intense work is a great challenge for all of us." Li Junfeng said that in the isolation ward, patients can come at any time, and everyone must pick them up at any time. Once, at more than two o'clock in the morning, after receiving the notice, Li Junfeng and his colleagues began to prepare for receiving, and when they were busy and lay down again, it was more than 4 o'clock, and at 7 o'clock in the morning, they had to get up again to start a new day's work.
"The first thing to do every morning is to go into the ward and say hello and ask about the patient." Hu Shasha said that this is followed by opening windows for ventilation and distributing breakfast, after which nurses spray and disinfect each ward, wipe it down, and then start treatment and health education according to the doctor's instructions. After the treatment of the first patient, it is strictly sterilized before proceeding to the next one. Until noon, lunch and a second round of spraying and disinfection began... And so on, Husasha and the nurses were lined up every day.
The nurse team refines the nursing work.
Surgical gowns, white coats, isolation gowns, protective clothing... Before entering the ward each time, the medical staff must strictly make protective clothing, and then the head nurse will conduct another examination. Several layers of protection are done, the inside is airtight, a few movements, is a sweat, even a simple nursing work will take longer than usual. In order to save protective materials, everyone wears diapers to work, and nurses are even more difficult to say when they encounter menstruation.
Help each other put on protective clothing.
"In fact, everyone's hard work is more because some patients need longer companionship and care." Husasha said that sometimes when entering the ward, if the patient is in a bad mood, we are accompanied for several hours.
During the 14 days in the isolation ward, Li Junfeng deliberately reduced the number of contacts with his family. "You can't form the habit of regular contact, in case you can't take care of the doctor one day, but let them worry." But such a "fierce" father always silently looks at the small video of his 4-year-old daughter on his mobile phone when he is idle, and smiles happily.
When she is homesick, Wu Xiuying will look through the window to see the lights in the distant home; after struggling for many days, Gong Xia finally has time and video with her daughter, and her eyes are full of tears without saying a few words...
Gong Xia with her daughter video.
It was finally time to rest, but the medical staff was not idle. Li Junfeng said that he should take advantage of this rare opportunity to rest and summarize the work of the past 14 days, what good experiences and what need to be strengthened, and to prepare for the next stage of work; Wu Xiuying seized the time to sort out the diary of the 14 days and give some experience to the second batch of team members; Hu Shasha kept in touch with the front line every day, and several beds of porridge and a few beds needed special care, and they had to be reminded in detail.
Dear comrades-in-arms, you have worked hard!
"I want to go to work quickly, work normally, see patients is very fulfilling, I hope that this epidemic will end as soon as possible, and life will return to normal is the best." This is Rezelin's simplest wish.
"This epidemic has tested our medical team, and everyone is not afraid of life and death, which is touching and full of strength." This epidemic has made Li Junfeng feel a lot.
"We were still in college 17 years ago when SARS was over, and our teachers were on the front lines, and they were our role models. From the day we chose this line, we were ready for battle. Husasha said firmly.
14 days and nights, an unusual 14 days, are destined to leave a lifelong unforgettable memory in the hearts of everyone who has experienced it. (New Gansu Gansu Daily reporter Qin Na)
