What is less well known is that Mr. Chen Jiageng was the first chairman of Quanzhou Sixth Middle School. "Chen Jiageng was able to survive when Quanzhou Sixth Middle School was facing the dilemma of suspension." Regarding this past, Chen Jiageng once recorded in his "Memoirs of Southern Overseas Chinese": "There is a private middle school in Quanzhou, which was painstakingly founded by people in various academic circles, with good results, and then due to economic difficulties, it will be stopped, and Yu Nian Quanzhou is a cultural district, and cannot bear to give up, so it is donated to maintain." The private middle school mentioned by Mr. Chen Jiageng is now Quanzhou No. 6 Middle School. It is said that after Chen Jiageng learned of Quanzhou's private survival difficulties in 1925, he began to donate funds to support the Sixth Middle School in January of the following year.

In fact, Mr. Jiageng's contribution and influence are far from being limited to southern Fujian, but also in many parts of the country and even in the world, they have left a deep imprint of Chen Jiageng or Jiageng's spiritual influence, and even in space, there is a planet named "Jiageng Star". Jiageng Star, Jiageng Jellyfish, Jiageng Road, Jiageng Park, "Jiageng" Research Ship, Jiageng Road, Jiageng Park, etc. named after him, and Jiageng Building of the University of California, Berkeley, etc., all reflect the world's admiration and nostalgia for him.

In August 1961, Mr. Chen Jiageng passed away. In order to commemorate Mr. Chen Jiageng, who was praised by Chairman Mao Zedong as "the banner of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation," and to study and carry forward mr. Chen Jiageng's patriotic spirit, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese convened a meeting in Beijing on October 2, 1961, to attend the National Day ceremony and sightseeing, and to discuss the preparation of the "Chen Jiageng Memorial Hall."

Inauguration of the Chen Jiageng Memorial Hall

At the meeting, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese issued a written opinion on "Preparing for the Establishment of the Origin of mr. Chen Jiageng's Memorial Hall", proposing that overseas Chinese should donate funds to build a memorial hall for Mr. Chen Jiageng at Huaqiao University in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, as the auditorium of Huaqiao University. The construction of the memorial hall was officially started in May 1980, and on October 23, 1983, it was handed over to Huaqiao University after a grand inauguration ceremony presided over by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. The construction of the Chen Jiageng Memorial Hall fully reflects the reverence and remembrance of Mr. Chen Jiageng by the vast number of overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots, embodies the state's care and love for the education of overseas Chinese, and is also a microcosm of overseas Chinese and overseas Chinese donating to Huaqiao University.
