Recently, during the daily field monitoring of The Wetland of Shiping Yilong Lake, for the first time in the wintering migratory birds, three wild birds were found, namely the white-browed duck, the crane sandpiper and the red-billed giant gull, all of which belong to the national "three haves" protected animals. At this point, the number of wild birds in Yilong Lake has risen to 165 species.

Yilong Lake is an important part of the ecological barrier of the west source of the Pearl River, one of the nine plateau lakes in Yunnan Province, with a runoff area of more than 360 square kilometers, corresponding to 116.05 million cubic meters of water, and a lake surface area of about 35.8 square kilometers. Yilong Lake, with its unique beauty of "Three Islands, Nine Curves and Seventy-Two Bays", has become a bright pearl in china's plateau mountain-type lake wetlands, and in December 2019, it was officially approved as a "National Wetland Park" by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration.
Yilong Lake is a nature reserve, wild bird habitat, in the lake area of the east, west, south and north of the four control areas, different areas present different ecological environment, some areas have lotus ponds, some areas have shoals and tidal flats, some areas along the coast of the distribution of reeds, calamus and other water plants, a variety of submerged plants in the water are abundant. The different areas and habitats in the lake area provide a good place for a variety of wild birds to inhabit. Among the many birds in Yilong Lake, some birds feed on fish and shrimp, some feed on aquatic plants, and some feed on conchs and river mussels. Yilong Lake has a good habitat, abundant aquatic plants, many fish and shrimp, a suitable living environment and sufficient food sources, so that many birds come to Yilong Lake to settle down.
This winter, in the shoal area along the wooden boardwalk on the west bank of Yilong Lake, there are wild birds such as red-billed gulls, white-boned chickens, purple water chickens, small-headed ducks, egrets, red-headed diving ducks, pintail ducks, spoonbills, spot-billed ducks, and herons, which gather in the same area, do not invade each other, coexist in harmony, and forage and inhabit leisurely.
Among the wintering migratory birds, the red-billed giant gull is known as the "overlord of the seabirds", two red-billed giant gulls are about 300 meters away from the edge of the wooden boardwalk, they quietly rest on the mud mound, mixed with ordinary red-billed gulls, from the telescope, they are not only large and red in the mouth, but also larger than the ordinary red-billed gull.
Followed by the red-billed giant gull, there is also the crane sandpiper known as the "fairy among the sandpipers". Three crane sandpipers keeping their distances and foraging in shallow waters along the edge of the boardwalk, they are small, slender, straight and pointed, and coexist in the same area as the flock of wild ducks, purple water chickens, and white-boned chickens. The arrival of the crane sandpiper has increased the number of sandpipers in Yilong Lake from the original 6 species of blue-footed sandpiper, white-waisted sandpiper, forest sandpiper, sand sandpiper, pintail sand cone and fantail sand cone to 7 species.
In addition, the flock of migratory birds has also monitored the white-browed duck, in the original list of 162 species of wild birds in Yilong Lake, the largest variety of duck legions, the white-browed duck joined, so that the duck family icing on the cake, the variety rose to 17 species. Although they are new to The Dragon Lake, the white-browed ducks are not afraid of people, they are in the same area as other spot-billed ducks, pintail ducks, spoonbills, and green-winged ducks, do not invade each other, wander in the shoals leisurely forage, after eating, they curl their necks under the wings, motionless, lazily floating on the water to nap.
According to reports, the settlement of red-billed giant gulls, crane sandpipers and white-browed ducks not only makes the list of wild birds in Yilong Lake happy, but also makes Yilong Lake a paradise for wild birds, adding luster to wild Yilong Lake and biodiversity.
