The "Dialogue: Academic Forum on Contemporary Chinese Film and Television Culture and Economy", jointly organized by City University of Macau and the China Europe Chamber of International Commerce and Industry, was recently held at city university of Macau to explore the potential benefits of the industrial economy from the perspective of new structural economics, and to discuss with senior practitioners how Macao can lead industrial upgrading and promote diversified economic models.

In his speech, Ip Kwai Ping, Associate Vice-President of City University of Macau, said that cultural and creative industries are one of the important industries in Macao's economic diversification strategy, and the 2021 Policy Address of the Macao SAR Government also mentioned the need to promote the industrialization of culture and sports and promote the development of the film and television industry. In this regard, Macao can start from the cultural industry, especially the film and television industry, combine the development of high-end service industries, and create a carrier of cultural tourism and cultural industry to meet the urgent needs of Macao and the Greater Bay Area for new cultural formats and cultural consumption models.

Norma Lam, a well-known Film and Television actress in Hong Kong, believes that cultivating more film and television industry talents is an important part of the development of film and television culture and economy. It is recommended that the Macao SAR Government support and encourage industry insiders to continue their studies, promote the improvement of the quality of behind-the-scenes work of the film industry, and let the traditional Chinese culture have a more far-reaching influence in Macao, so as to enhance the soft power of culture.

Li Zisong, director of Macao Lotus Satellite TV, said that China's film and television industry is in a good period of development today, and China will develop into a film and television industry power in the future. In this context, it is imperative to attract high-end talents in the field, rationally use and combine Macao's characteristics, and develop a film and television industry with Macao characteristics.

Li Zisong believes that the development of Macao's film and television industry should give full play to its strengths and avoid its weaknesses, such as introducing more crews and talents to Macao, providing more supporting measures to attract crews to come to Macao for filming. Macao is also suitable for holding film and television industry forums, award ceremonies and other activities, which can give full play to the advantages of this aspect.

During the interactive discussion session, the participants conducted in-depth and extensive exchanges on the cultural focus of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the characteristics of actors and story interpretations, and even how to organically combine with the mainland (mainland).

Wu Zaiquan, president of the Macao Wisdom and Humanities Inspiration Association, said that film and television works, as a carrier, can spread China's profound culture to the world. The Macao market is relatively small compared to the mainland, but the Film and Television Industry in Macao is gradually developing, especially with the construction of the Greater Bay Area and the state's vigorous support for the cultural tourism industry and other policies, the development opportunities of macao's film and television industry are very broad.

Li Jingyi, a member of the Legislative Council of the Macao SAR, pointed out from the policy level that the Macao SAR Government has always attached importance to the development of cultural industries. It is also important to assist practitioners, in particular, in promoting aspiring young people to join the relevant industries.

Zhu Wanji, deputy director of the Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports in Pengjiang District, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, believes that in the Chinese market, film and television culture is in a better era, and it is necessary to make good use of the current opportunities and combine them with product marketing and cultural tourism. We should not only focus on box office revenue, click rate, etc., but also develop in many ways, linking the huge consumption areas such as film and television peripheral products and cultural tourism.
