Nekrasov's humiliation

author:Rusha 11

On April 4, 1866, the first assassination of Tsar Alexander II took place, and the angry Tsar appointed the famous "executioner" Mikhail Muravyov to deal with opposition and so-called liberals. Terror began to envelop the capital, St. Petersburg, and the great poet worried about himself and his magazine Modern Man. Now the fanatical Muravyov is in control. Nekrasov began to save himself with his own actions.

The English Club awarded Muravyov an honorary title and hosted a dinner party for it. Nekrasov participated. The people's poet Nekrasov asked permission to recite to Muravyov a new poem dedicated to him, who was recognized by society as an "executioner" by society. However, Muravyov did not bother to answer at all and continued to smoke his pipe. Without waiting for polite consent, the poet began to recite a hymn dedicated to the "hanger." After the recitation, he pleaded, "Your Excellency, will you allow me to publish this poem?"

Muravyov replied coldly: "It is your property, you can do whatever you want with it." Then turn his back to the poet. Someone next to him added fuel to the fire and said loudly: "He thinks he can bribe justice by reading poetry, wait for you, you can't run!" The poet rolled, deeply humiliated. His magazine was shut down, and neither the young nor the upper classes forgave him, taking down his portrait and writing "despicable" on it. Then send it to him. It made him very miserable. Fortunately, people in the future still respect and recognize him.
