During the Spring and Autumn Period, Guiyang was the jurisdiction of the Mu Mu State. Mu Mu was one of the nine great southern countries in China during the Spring and Autumn Period, and its power was powerful. During the Warring States period, in the ethnic minority areas of the southwest, dozens of tribal states existed, the largest of which was the Yelang Kingdom. At that time, the area of Guiyang may have been one of the important settlements for the people of the Yelang Kingdom.

During the Warring States period (475 BC to 221 BC), the seven kingdoms of Yan, Zhao, Han, Wei, Qi, Chu and Qin were formed. Among them, the State of Qin occupied the western part of our country, and Qin Xiaogong appointed Shang Martin to carry out reforms, and the national strength became stronger and stronger. The State of Chu occupies the southern part of our country, and due to the continuous expansion of its territory, its territory is the largest. Qin and Chu looked at each other, and each wanted to destroy the other. The States of Shu and Ba in Sichuan, as well as Yelang and Jilan in Guizhou, became the middle ground between the two powers. At the time of the Qin-Chu competition, a major event closely related to Guiyang occurred--Zhuang Andi Wang Dian.

When King Xiang of Chu was in power, he sent the aristocratic general Zhuang Ji to lead an army to the west, and the destination of the western expedition was Dianchi Lake in Yunnan. The land near Dianchi Lake is flattened, rich in production, and the place is vast. Zhuang's army set out from the capital of the Chu state of Ying (郢, in present-day Jiangling, Hubei Province) and marched day and night, soon reaching Huangzhou (晃州, in modern Xinhuang County, Hunan Province). Huangzhou has Yuanshui, which originates in present-day Huangping, Guizhou, and flows through Shibing, Zhenyuan, Qingxi, and yuping to Huangzhou. Zhuang's troops took a boat up against the yuan water, and after arriving in present-day Yuping, Guizhou, they had to land on foot, occupying Helan (one of the ancient southwestern states, mainly located in present-day Fuquan, Guizhou), entering the Yelang Realm and reaching the area of present-day Guiyang. Later, he surrendered to Yelang, passing through present-day Anshun, Panxian and Qujing, and trekking thousands of miles before reaching Dianchi Lake. Just as Zhuang Ji was leading his army into Yunnan, the State of Qin took the opportunity to send troops to seize Qianzhongdi, which was located at the junction of Sichuan, Qian, and Xiang, cutting off Zhuang's way back, and Zhuang Had to stay in Dianchi as king. Soon after, Zhuang and his subordinates changed their costumes and blended in with the local ethnic minorities.
