The Hometown of great people A Hundred Years of Style -- Xiangtan Party History Character Stories 丨 Xu Hanqing Xu Wei: Fearless of The Severe Punishment of Secret Agents Guarding the Secrets of the Party

Editor's note: History is eternal because of remembrance, and spirit is not extinguished because of inheritance. In order to present the centenary anniversary of the Communist Party of China, the Xiangtan Daily newspaper and the Party History Research Office of the Municipal CPC Committee jointly launched a column entitled "A Hundred Years of Glory in the Hometown of a Great Man -- Stories of Xiangtan Party History Figures." Through one after another touching and profound micro-stories of Xiangtan communists, they vividly reproduced their glorious course of unremitting struggle for national independence and people's liberation, the country's prosperity and strength, and the people's happiness, and fully demonstrated the revolutionary ancestors' firm political belief, lofty ideal of serving the country, sincere feelings for the people, and selfless dedication, and encouraged the broad masses of party members and cadres throughout the city to really do solid work 3. Forge ahead, and condense the majestic force to promote the "three highs and four new" strategy and build the "six Xiangtan". Stay tuned.

Xu Hanqing and Xu Wei are brother and sister, and they are from Shebu Town, Xiangtan County. Influenced by his uncle Tan Ronghua (a member of the Communist Party), he longed for revolution. In 1935, they came to Changsha to make a living. In 1938, Xu Wei was introduced to the Communist Party of China by her high school teacher Zhang Jingquan. Teacher Zhang also recommended that she join the anti-Japanese group "Xin'an Tour Group" under the leadership of the Communist Party, and accompany the group to study and travel all over the country to publicize the anti-Japanese resistance.

Xu Wei tirelessly participated in rehearsals and performances, and threw herself into the propaganda activities of anti-Japanese salvation. Xu Hanqing shared the burden of family life and went everywhere to do chores to support her family. In 1939, he opened a book stall in Nanzheng Street, Changsha, selling progressive books to some staff and students, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1942.

In March 1946, the brothers and sisters opened a "Curiosity Bookstore" in Changsha, using the bookstore as a cover to secretly carry out the party's underground liaison work. They changed the covers or packaged progressive books and newspapers and periodicals sent from Hong Kong, such as "Prospects," "Chronicles of Chinese Communist Party Figures," "On New Democracy," and "Wen Wei Po," and placed them in the mezzanine of the bookshelf for underground party organizations in various places to read. Less than half a year after the bookstore opened, business was particularly prosperous, and many progressive young people often came to the bookstore to buy books and periodicals, which attracted the attention of the secret agents of the Changsha Military Command, who put Xu Hanqing and Xu Wei on the assassination blacklist.

On the night of August 15, 1946, agents surrounded the Curiosity Bookstore, and Xu Hanqing and Xu Wei were arrested. In the face of the enemy's torture to extract confessions, the brothers and sisters are very tenacious. The enemy did not get any information about the underground party organization from their mouths, so he buried Xu Hanqing alive one late one night 3 days later. The fierce enemy tortured Xu Wei to death, and then brutally cut her into several pieces. The brothers and sisters died heroically near the cultivated garden of Changsha's South Grand Cross Road.

Even in the face of danger of life and the threat of death, Xu Hanqing and Xu Wei still insisted on guarding the party's secrets and never betrayed their comrades. They defended the faith in their hearts with their lives, guarded the secrets of the party, and the brothers and sisters sacrificed tragically, and they also sacrificed great and glorious!
