Demystify the "Sperm Extraction Room"!
Many viewers are interested in the "sperm room"
This mysterious little room is full of curiosity
There are also enthusiastic netizens who have dedicated their experience
Okay, satisfy your curiosity today
Take a tour of the "sperm extraction room"
Tell the story behind "taking the essence"
Take the sperm chamber for large exposure
In fact, the enthusiastic netizen, the memory is still quite accurate.
The extraction room is a small room of three or four square meters, with a sofa (or a small bed), a medical garbage can, an emergency alarm, some hand towel paper, and a TV.
You see, although the room is small, there should be some, which fully meets the needs of men to manually extract sperm.
Our Fertility Center has 7 sperm extraction rooms, 2 reproductive clinics, 3 on the 21st floor of Building 3 and 2 on the 22nd floor of Building 3.
I don't know if the curious babies have noticed this cabinet
Ever wondered what's behind it?
Secretly tell you
This is actually a mysterious window
Opposite the pass window, there is a direct connection to the more mysterious laboratory
But don't be nervous
The pass window is opaque
After closing it, no one can see what is happening in the sperm retrieval chamber
Of course, you don't see the situation in the laboratory
When you're done, put the sperm cup directly into the pass window
Our lab staff is on the other side of the pass window
Wait for your "refining" results
Most of the time the wait time is not very long
Of course, this is also what we hope
Patients who sometimes have difficulty extracting sperm
We can only wait in silence
No one is urging you, rest assured
This lab
It's our "washroom."
Why should sperm be washed?
How to wash?
Hand or machine wash, fully automatic or semi-automatic?
Will it be cleaner after washing?
We know that semen is composed of seminal plasma and sperm, seminal plasma is like water for raising fish, and sperm is like fish in water.
Both IVF and artificial insemination require only sperm, not seminal plasma.
Therefore, the procedure of "washing sperm" is to extract sperm in semen, and at the same time eliminate many dead sperm, sperm with poor vitality, and deformed sperm.
Step 1: Liquefaction
The semen that comes in cannot be washed immediately
At this time, most of the semen is jelly-like
(I can't look at jelly anymore...) )
It takes a while to slowly "melt"
We call this "liquefaction"
The liquefaction time generally ranges from a few minutes to an hour
Step 2: Detergent
There are many ways to wash semen
One of the most commonly used is the density gradient centrifugation method
At present, washing essence is still "hand washing"
"Machine wash" has not been implemented
Don't think about it
"Hand washing" does not mean scrubbing by hand
Instead, it refers to manual operation
We use pipettes
Of course, there is no direct contact with semen with hands
The principle is like this ↓↓
First, two different densities of liquid are added to the centrifuge tube
That is, upper liquid and lower liquid
Then, pipette aspirate 1.5-3 ml of semen to add above
(As shown on the left side of the image above)
Then, the sperm started the "diving competition"
Active sperm are able to "swim" from top to bottom to the end
The poorly motilized sperm swims halfway and gives up
(As shown on the right side of the image above)
Sperm are "pulled" out of the seminal plasma
In fact
It will be slow to let the sperm break free of the sperm on their own to dive
The eggs can't wait that much time
Therefore, centrifuges are required
The sperm is "forcefully pulled out" from the seminal plasma by centrifugal force.
After "pulling the sperm out"
It is much faster to let the sperm go "diving" again
Finally, we will suck the "moped" sperm at the bottom of the test tube
Then wash another 1-2 times with clean culture broth
The principle, like the previous one, is centrifugal
Sperm after polyester
After washing, according to the motility, it is divided into three levels: forward, non-anterior and immobile sperm.
Forward sperm is like a national athlete, able to run forward quickly.
Non-forward sperm are more amateurish, or more "homely", swimming slowly, or rolling in place.
Without moving sperm, he lay in place without moving, willing to make a "lying corpse" essence.
Stand out from the crowd,
Basically, they are good sperm that are alive and jumping and have strong fertilization ability.
They will be placed in a 37-degree incubator for a period of time.
It is then used for artificial insemination or IVF insemination.
