But an incident recently reported by foreign media has really scared Americans out of a cold sweat, so that they have some doubts about their proud stealth technology.

The report has not yet received an official response from the United States, but public opinion generally believes that if this is true, there is no doubt that the technical superiority of stealth aircraft accumulated by the Americans over decades will disappear overnight, which will deal a heavy blow to the military hegemony of the United States.

According to foreign media reports, the specific model of the large-scale long-range radar used by the Venezuelan Air Force is the JY-27A3-D radar. This radar was developed by a domestic research institute in China, which was once publicly displayed at the Zhuhai Airshow in 2016, and is one of the advanced long-range warning radars that China can export to the outside world. It is said that the radar uses meter-wave band electromagnetic waves for detection, and its development purpose is to detect stealth targets.

Aircraft stealth technology has been developed for more than 40 years. As early as the late 1960s, due to the rapid development of Soviet anti-aircraft missile technology at that time, the US Air Force could not effectively escape the hunting of Soviet anti-aircraft missiles, whether it was high-altitude penetration or low-altitude penetration. Moreover, the fourth-generation fighter that had just been developed at that time had reached the limit of human ability in terms of maneuverability, so it was impossible to avoid the blows of surface-to-air missiles by improving the mobility of the aircraft. To this end, American aviation technology scientists have for the first time proposed the concept of "stealth". That is, by appropriately modifying the aerodynamic shape design of the aircraft, the ground radar cannot effectively detect the aircraft flying in the sky, so as to achieve the "stealth" of the aircraft. From the 1980s to the present, the US military has been equipped with four types of stealth aircraft such as F-117A, B-2A, F-22, and F-35, and these four stealth aircraft have actually been on the battlefield and tested in actual combat.

However, the so-called spear has a shield, since the US military continues to develop its own stealth aircraft, on the other hand, other major countries in the world are seriously studying "anti-stealth" technology. The so-called stealth technology, to put it simply, is to change the shape design of the aircraft for the frequency of the radar electromagnetic waves, so that the shape of the aircraft has a certain inclination angle in all aspects, so that the radar wave will not be catapulted back along the original road after irradiation on the aircraft, but scattered to other directions, so that the radar receiver can not receive the echo, and it cannot effectively detect the incoming aircraft. In addition, stealth aircraft usually spray materials specifically on the surface for adsorbing radar waves, so that the shape design + absorbing material can reduce the radar wave reflection by more than 95%, so that the aircraft can be "stealthy" on the radar screen. The way to reverse stealth is actually very simple: replace the radar waves of other frequencies.

Radar waves are usually divided into microwave, millimeter wave, centimeter wave, decimeter wave, meter wave and so on according to different wavelengths. Due to the good directivity and high resolution of centimeter and decimeter waves, most modern radars use centimeter and decimeter waves. Stealth aircraft also mostly target radars in these two bands. If a large-wavelength meter-wave radar is used, then the aircraft that were originally invisible for centimeter-wave and deci-meter-wave cannot be invisible to the meter-wave radar, so it will be "exposed". The Chinese-made JY-27A long-range warning radar used by the Venezuelan military is such a mibo long-range warning radar, which was displayed at the 2016 Zhuhai Air Show, and the important selling point of its propaganda was that it could effectively detect stealth aircraft.

Although the news that the Venezuelan military used Chinese-made radar to find the F-22 stealth fighter has not yet been confirmed by the United States, this is not the first time that China's rebel stealth radar has found a stealth fighter. As early as January 2019, the Israeli Air Force once sent F-35 fighter jets to sneak attack and destroy the Syrian long-range warning radar, and coincidentally, the destroyed Syrian long-range warning radar is also a JY-27 type mipo radar! Official Israeli accounts confirm that the radar "hampered" Israeli F-35I fighters from operating over Syria and Lebanon. So, from this perspective, the JY-27 large-meter-wave radar does have the ability to spot stealth targets, so if the F-22 is really close to Venezuela, it is not impossible for the JY-27 to be spotted.
