History

The Shetland Islands, located on the North Sea between Norway and Scotland, are the home of the Hilti Shepherd. It's cold and windy, the rocks are rough, and the environment is harsh. Around 1700, locals improved the breeds of dogs brought from outside the island to be close to the current Hilti and trained over the centuries to become sheepdogs capable of controlling and protecting flocks.

In the 19th century, this dog was introduced into Scotland for improvement; in 1909, it was originally recognized in England under the name "Shedland Collie"; in 1911 it was recognized by the United States, and after arriving in the United States, the ranch and farm became the new home of the Hilti Shepherd, no matter where in the United States, it was an indispensable and important role in the family and work, in 1914, it was renamed the Shetland Shepherd, and became famous all over the world with the nickname "Hilti".
