"When there are Osaka soldiers participating in the war, the morale of the Chinese army will be doubled. The battle that could have been won will also be lost..." This is what the Japanese described as their "pig teammate" Osaka Division.
The 108th Wing was founded in June 1938 under the 104th Division, code-named "Feng". Most of the soldiers are over the age of 30, mainly Osaka soldiers, and the vast majority are veterans. In October 1938, during the Japanese army's Battle of Guangzhou, due to insufficient troops, the 108th Wing was transferred to support, which led to an incident that made the Japanese high-level cry and laugh, that is, the "Battle of Buffalo".
In August 1938, the Japanese base camp formulated a plan to attack Guangdong, and the commander, Lieutenant General Guzhuang Ganlang, had already heard of Osaka's former vices, so the first echelon only released its most effective fifth division and eighteenth divisions, and landed in Daya Bay on October 12 and began a large-scale attack on Guangdong. The 104th Division, where the "Feng Force" was located, was required to land on the back of the Salt Stove on the east side of Daya Bay on the 15th, and then attacked and advanced.
The Japanese army suddenly attacked Guangzhou, and the Guangdong army was caught off guard. Yu Hanmou hastily concentrated the strength of about five divisions to fight on the front line of Zengcheng. For the sake of safety, Guzhuang Ganlang urgently ordered the 104th Division to land and quickly move closer to Zengcheng.
However, the "Feng Troops" obviously failed to complete their tasks on time, and after arriving at the landing site on the 15th, the officers and men stayed on the ship on the 16th because they "did not get the landing order." The so-called preparatory work has been carried out for five days, and on the evening of the 20th, the landing officially began.
Guzhuang Ganlang constantly ordered the 108th Wing to go to Zengcheng to support. The Japanese military top brass were well aware of the habits of the Osaka soldiers: they shrank back during the battle and rushed forward after the battle. Therefore, the military commander of the 108th Wing was constantly threatened: if he could not reach Guangzhou within three days, the senior officers of the team could be sent to the reserve, which was a great shame at the time.
When they arrived in Guangzhou, it was already November 2, ten days after the landing. The exasperated Twenty-first Army saw the report submitted by the "Phoenix Troops" for the delay and was completely desperate for this unit. The "Phoenix Troops" explained that the reason for the delay was actually - Chinese cattle!
The report of the 108th Wing said that the "Phoenix Troops" had been on the ship for a long time, and the soldiers were quite tired after landing. The warhorses who accompanied the troops also had difficulty adapting and fell ill one after another. So the unit concentrated a group of Chinese cattle to assist in the transportation of heavy weights. The 108th Wing said that it would do it, snatched a lot of ordinary people's cattle, put guns and bullets on the back of the cattle, and went on the road lightly, so that it could run faster.
It's still hot in Guangdong in October, and surprisingly, these cattle are different from Japanese cattle breeds. They are infinitely powerful and docile, but soon after they come out, the sun gradually rises to the zenith, and the heat is unbearable. The Japanese were surprised to find that the buffalo had fled to a nearby pond for comfort and bathed in accordance with their daily habits.
At this point, the Japanese army was completely mad - the back of the cow was the most important weapon and the salt of high value in the local area. They had to jump into the pond and engage in hand-to-hand combat with the cattle. And immediately sent a telegram to the above: our guns and bullets were all in the water, and we hurried to catch them and dry them. As a result, the ministry had to rest in the local area for three days, drying ammunition and tidying up makeup. The battle of Zengcheng was over. The 108th Wing saw that the battle was over and rushed to Zengcheng.
