After the man's cervical spine massage, the vertebral artery dissection causes a stroke

Mr. Li, 32 years old, because of shoulder and neck pain and discomfort, wanted to relieve through massage, but did not expect that two days after the massage, there was dizziness accompanied by nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, and then there was hemiplegia on one side of the limb, walking unsteadily, even the words could not be said clearly, to the hospital to check and found that it was a stroke. Deng Gang, deputy director of the Department of Interventional and Vascular Surgery of CuHK Affiliated to Southeast University, analyzed that improper neck massage led to bilateral vertebral artery dissection, inducing acute cerebral infarction of the cerebellum and almost dying.

Mr. Li is 32 years old this year, because of his work relationship, he needs to work with the computer for a long time, and he always feels sore and uncomfortable in his neck. A few days ago, after working overtime, he felt a special pain in his shoulders and neck and wanted to massage it to relieve it. So he went to a massage shop near his unit.

The massage master also twisted Mr. Li's neck when he pressed it to his neck. At that time, Mr. Li was not unwell, and the next morning after arriving home, he suddenly suffered nausea and vomiting, accompanied by sweating all over his body, and his symptoms were alleviated after a short rest. Thinking that it was a cervical spondylosis offender, Mr. Li did not care, and in the afternoon he again appeared sweating and accompanied by nausea, so he immediately went to the emergency department of the local hospital for treatment and conservative treatment.

About two days later, Mr. Li had nausea and vomiting again, accompanied by dizziness. After another day, his left limb began to numb and disobey the call, and his speech was not clear, and his family rushed him to the Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University. After magnetic resonance examination, the doctor found that the patient's bilateral cerebellum and occipital lobe had multiple divergences in the infarction, combined with cerebral angiography, and finally diagnosed acute cerebellar infarction, commonly known as stroke.

Deng Gang's team of chief physicians immediately decided: first remove the embolus, and then re-open the patient's blood vessels by intervening in the implantation of stents. Chief Physician Deng Gang and Attending Physician Zhao Guofeng first performed a stenting of the vertebrobasilar artery, and then placed the stent in the dissection section of the vertebral basilar artery, and the operation was successfully completed one hour later. Mr. Li's vertebral artery finally recovered sufficient blood supply, and the precarious cerebral ischemia was saved in time.

Why did the young Mr. Li suddenly have a stroke? Chief physician Deng Gang said that carotid artery dissection mainly includes internal cervical artery dissection and vertebral artery dissection, and the patient has done neck massage before the onset of the disease, considering that this disease is related to improper massage. Unprofessional massage will damage the carotid arteries, cause the rupture of the nourishing blood vessels in the arterial wall, form an intermural hematoma, compress the vascular cavity, cause severe lumen stenosis, lead to a serious shortage of cerebral blood flow supply, cause ischemic cerebral infarction, and in severe cases can lead to slurred speech, limb movement disorders, hemiplegia and other symptoms.
