Yesterday morning, the inauguration ceremony of the scientific research and popularization area of Huizhou Fishery Research and Extension Center was held. It is reported that Huizhou is a large fishing city, last year's total output of aquatic products was about 300,000 tons, the total output value of more than 4 billion yuan, the use of scientific research and science popularization area for the city's fishery research and promotion to build a comprehensive platform. It is worth mentioning that the much-concerned sperm whale theme museum will be built on the first floor of the scientific research and science popularization area.

Gao Wenfeng, director of the Municipal Fishery Research and Extension Center, introduced that the Municipal Fishery Research and Extension Center, formerly known as huizhou fishery science and technology research institute, was established in 1973, the main function is to undertake aquaculture technology research and development, pilot, demonstration and promotion, after years of development, the municipal fishery research and promotion center has achieved impressive results, ranking among the best in the Guangdong Provincial Municipal Aquatic Research Institute. In 2012, in order to cooperate with the construction of Jinshan Lake Park, a key municipal people's livelihood project, the center was moved to the temporary resettlement site of Pingtan in Huiyang District.

The newly completed scientific research and science popularization area is located in the Dongjiang High-tech Industrial Park, covering an area of more than 10,000 square meters, and at the same time renting 470 mu of land for the construction of the breeding experimental demonstration area. Wang Zhengyin, vice chairman of the Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Municipal Bureau of Oceanography and Fisheries, said that he hopes that the fishery research and promotion center will base itself on the actual development of modern fisheries in our city, focus on the supply-side reform of fisheries, increase the intensity of talent training, strengthen the capacity building of fishery science and technology services, build the research and promotion center into a first-class marine and fishery scientific research demonstration platform in our province and even the whole country, promote the high-quality development of modern fisheries in the city, and make new and greater contributions to the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy in our city.

Dongshi reporter learned at the scene yesterday that the completion of the scientific research and science popularization area will accelerate the construction of the sperm whale theme museum, which is expected to be completed within this year. As a public welfare exhibition, the public can enter the exhibition free of charge.

According to reports, the sperm whale theme hall is located on the first floor, covering an area of 1100 square meters, and it is planned to focus on sperm whales and build a regional and modern herbarium integrating aquatic biological specimen collection, aquatic biological taxonomic systematics and biodiversity research, and aquatic biological science knowledge publicity. In addition to sperm whales, in the future, you can also see thousands of fish specimens collected by our city in the Dongjiang River system and the waters of Daya Bay over the years.
