At the United Nations, China unveiled the bad deeds of the United States

On October 26, the website of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations published Ambassador Geng Shuang's speech at the video side meeting on arbitrary detention at the 76th International Law Week of the General Assembly, the full text of which is as follows:

Mr. President,

The 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights clearly states: "No one shall be arbitrarily arrested, detained or exiled".

Arbitrary detention tramples on human rights and the rule of law, and arbitrary detention of citizens of other countries mostly involves the indiscriminate imposition of unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction", and the use of arbitrary detention to exert pressure on other countries is a violation of the basic principles of international law such as sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs and the basic norms of international relations. China resolutely opposes arbitrary detention, resolutely opposes the adoption of double standards on the issue of arbitrary detention, and resolutely opposes political manipulation and indiscriminate unilateral bullying on the issue of arbitrary detention.

We cannot speak of arbitrary detention without talking about the bad deeds of the United States in this regard. The United States has long held a large number of suspects in the infamous Guantanamo prison, some of whom have been detained indefinitely without legal process and continue to be tortured and ill-treated. The United States has also arbitrarily detained innocent immigrants and forcibly separated migrant children from their parents, resulting in the breakdown of countless families. Of the 266,000 migrant children detained by the U.S. government in recent years, more than 25,000 have been detained for more than 100 days, nearly 1,000 have spent more than a year in refugee shelters, and some have even been detained for more than five years, according to the Los Angeles Times website.

The Meng Wanzhou incident, concocted by the United States, is a typical arbitrary detention. Facts have long proved that the allegations of so-called "fraud" against Ms. Meng Wanzhou are pure fabrications. Even HSBC, which was accused by the US side of being a "victim", issued documents sufficient to prove Ms. Meng's innocence. This incident was caused by the unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction" imposed by the United States, is a political persecution of Chinese citizens, and seriously violates the rules and principles of respecting human rights, properly exercising national jurisdiction, non-interference in internal affairs, and mutual respect for sovereignty under international law.

Canada has also played a very disgraceful role in this. The Canadian side should deeply reflect and learn lessons, instead of politically manipulating the issue of "arbitrary detention" under the banner of discussing legal issues.

On the issue of respecting international law, what the US side and the Canadian side should do is not to dictate and dictate to other countries, but to put aside arrogance and prejudice, abandon double standards, face up to and review their own serious problems, and take practical measures to safeguard the international rule of law.
