South Korea's 16-month-old baby girl was abused to death The foster mother was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance

According to South Korean media reports, on the 14th, Zhang Mou, an adoptive mother suspected of abusing her 16-month-old adopted daughter to death in South Korea, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance.

On the 14th, the Criminal Division of the Southern District Court of Seoul pronounced a first-instance judgment on the case of "Jeong In", who was suspected of abusing children to death.

The court found his adoptive mother, Zhang Mou, a "suspected murderer" and sentenced her to life imprisonment. An Mou, the adoptive father who was also prosecuted, was also sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Zhang was previously charged with murder and child abuse, and An was prosecuted for allegedly violating the Child Welfare Law. On April 14, South Korean prosecutors demanded that Zhang be sentenced to death and An to 7 years and 6 months in prison.

Zheng Ren was adopted by Zhang and An 7 months after birth. In October 2020, 16-month-old Jeong In died at a hospital in Seoul, diagnosed with ruptured organs and multiple fractures.

According to South Korean media reports, zheng ren has been treated many times before, and doctors have comprehensively bruised, nutritional status, etc., judged that the girl had suffered long-term abuse and called the police many times, but the police and child protection agencies found no evidence of domestic violence after investigation. Until the girl died in the hospital, the incident caused an uproar.

After the "Zheng Ren" incident was exposed, a large number of people launched a "Zheng Ren Ah Sorry" relay on the Internet to demand a thorough investigation of the incident.

In January, South Korea's ruling Party, the Supreme Council of the Democratic Party, held a meeting to say it planned to enact laws to raise sentencing standards for child abuse. The National Power Party, the largest opposition party, has publicly stated that it calls for the truth to be ascertained and severely punished those responsible.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in also said earlier that the incident was "regrettable" and called for stronger supervision and management of the adoption of children.
