In the planning of the large airport, the site selection and layout of the Shenzhen Second Convention and Exhibition Center were planned in advance, and the rail line network was adjusted and the entrances and exits were added along the river.
In 2014, the government decided to design a exhibition hall area of 300,000 square meters at the Airport Peking University Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center. The plan takes the exhibition as the core driving and strategic node, combines the regional transportation hubs such as airports and railways, and develops functional formats and industrial clusters closely related to the airport economy, such as exhibition and trade, innovative research and development, and international logistics, leading the development of the new airport city, activating the industrial vitality of Shenzhen's east coast and the radiation force of the Pearl River Delta Greater Bay Area. This planning has made the airport new city take shape.
In 2018, in order to better and faster promote the construction of the surrounding area of the Shenzhen World Convention and Exhibition Center, the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources organized and compiled the "Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition City Comprehensive Plan", with the purpose of building this area into an "open-led international convention and exhibition gateway area, a new engine of innovation and sharing of science and technology in the Bay Area, an efficient and complex western city center polar core, and a green ecological urban area with industry-city integration". Aviation New City has officially entered a period of rapid development.
The total area of the airport new city is about 95 square kilometers, including Shajing, Fuhai, Fuyong, Hangcheng and Xixiang. The area is located in the northern part of the large airport area, with a planned area of 45 square kilometers.
