On June 6, the Disney live-action movie "Black and White Witch Kuira" was released. The film was released two days ago, only achieved 17.69 million yuan at the box office, but the reputation is good, for female audiences who like clothing and fashion, this movie can be called a walking fashion textbook, showing the fashion elements of clothing since the 1970s, allowing people to see a mobile fashion feast. The performances of emma Stone and Emma Thompson, the two lead actors in the film, are also quite delicate, making this story of dog blood seem not boring.
Since the double harvest of word-of-mouth and box office in "Joker", there have been more stories about how ordinary people have grown into villains. Set in London during the punk rock revolution of the 1970s, Kuira the Black and White Witch tells the story of a young girl named Estherella (Emma Stone) who grows up to become a crazy, fashionable and vindictive Kuira. Kuira is the villain in the Disney animated film 101 Loyal Dogs, a woman who is crazy obsessed with animal furs. "Black and White Witch Kuila" is about the process of "blackening" when she was young, but in this work, she is actually a girl with a normal mind, but her behavior is a little crazy.
Unlike the social and political themes explored in Joker, Kuira the Black and White Witch completely abandons these points and instead focuses on the areas of family and clothing. In the family, Estella is not faced with the role of an evil stepmother, but her own mother, and the blood bond does not finally reverse a trace of goodwill in the mother's heart, she is desperate to put her own daughter to death, so that Estella's desire for affection in her heart is finally extinguished, this unconventional routine is rarely seen in Disney's previous fairy tales.
The production cost of 200 million US dollars gives the film enough strength to create a gorgeous fashion show. Several fashion shows in "Black and White Witch Kuila" are filmed to a high standard, and the film's costumes are easy to see the shadows of British designer Vivian Westwood, known as the "punk godmother", and the deceased "bad boy" Alexander McQueen, the outlandish design and ubiquitous street elements are widely used in the film, and I believe that this film will become a strong contender for next year's Oscar for Best Costume Design.
In addition, emma Stone and Emma Thompson, two actors, also gave outstanding performances in the film. The Baroness played by Emma Thompson is no less than Miranda in Meryl Streep's "The Witch Who Wears PRADA", both in terms of aura and eyes; Estherra, played by Stone Sister Emma Stone, is equally wonderful. In this film, she actually played two roles: a female secretary who was only non-committal; and the other was the brash Andrea Kuira. Compared with Mia in "Philharmonic City", which won her best actress oscar, Estella is more malleable and elastic in her performance, and I believe she is expected to compete for next year's Oscar for best actress with this film.
Overall, "Black and White Witch Kuila" is a lot further away from "Joker", and it is only appropriate to compare it with movies like "Sleeping Curse", which is essentially a variant of Disney fairy tales, but I still prefer this "Black and White Witch Kuila" than "Sleeping Curse". (Wang Jinyue)
