Garlic yield is high and the benefit is good, which is the main way for many farmers to increase their income. In the process of garlic growth and development, it is not only affected by a variety of natural disasters, but also suffers from a variety of diseases and insect pests, of which the most common and most harmful pest is garlic maggots. There are many ways to prevent and control garlic maggots, the most commonly used method in production is to use octyl thion, chlorpyrifos, high-efficiency cypermethrin and other agents for root irrigation, irrigation is not only a large investment, but also easy to cause pesticide residues. Reduces the quality of garlic. Today I will introduce you to a new method, which is soil treatment. Soil treatment is not only simple to operate, long-lasting, but also not easy to cause pesticide residues. It is the best way to control garlic maggots.

Harmful symptoms
Garlic maggots are the larvae of gray ground fly species, also known as root maggots, ground maggots, etc., mainly using larvae to harm the rhizomes and bulbs of garlic. Seedling fly will lay eggs in the rhizome of the seedling, after the egg hatching, the young larvae burrow into the stem to feed, resulting in malnutrition of the seedlings, slow growth, and even seedling death, the emergence of seedlings and ridges; in the adult stage, the overwintering larvae mainly harm the roots and bulbs of garlic, the larvae burrow into the bulb to feed, causing the bulbs to lose their edible value, in the high humidity environment conditions, it will also cause bulb rot. This leads to a reduction in production.
Regularity of occurrence
Gray ground fly in China 1 year occurs 3 to 4 generations, to pupae or larvae in the garlic rhizosphere around the soil 2 ~ 10 cm overwintering, garlic has 2 hazard peak periods per year, the first hazard peak is in the garlic autumn sowing season, that is, September to October, the main harm of newly unearthed garlic seedlings; the second hazard peak period is in the rotten mother stage of garlic. That is, from mid-to-late April to early May, it mainly harms the roots and bulbs of garlic. It is the period when the production is most harmful.
Prevention and control methods
That is, before garlic sowing, use 3% thiamethoxenine granules 2 to 3 kg per acre, add fully decomposed organic fertilizer, mix well and then spread, mix the agent and the soil evenly, and then sow seeds. Thiamethoxine water solubility is good, strong internal absorption conductivity, wide range of insecticidal, not easy to move, long effective period, dissolved in water agents, absorbed by garlic roots, can be transmitted to various parts of garlic, the garlic maggots that harm garlic are killed.
