Recently, images of suspected snow leopard activity were taken in the Marco River forest area of Qinghai Province. After expert identification, it was confirmed as a snow leopard as a national key protected animal.
The Marco River forest area has always been a legend of snow leopard activity, but there has been no video record of it for more than 30 years. The No. 37 infrared camera installed in the Red Army Ditch of the Marco River Forest Area captured the moving image of the snow leopard, confirming the existence of the snow leopard in the Marco River Forest Area.
The relevant person in charge said that the snow leopard, as the flagship species of the plateau ecosystem, is known as the "indicator" of the health of the high-altitude ecosystem, and its discovery proves that the ecological indicators such as the ecological environment health, biodiversity richness and food chain integrity of the Marco River Protection Zone of the Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve have been greatly improved, and also reflect the remarkable ecological protection results in the Sanjiangyuan area in recent years.
The Marco River Forest Area is located in the core area of the Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve, which is rich in wildlife resources. Previously, 25 species of wild animals have been monitored, including 7 species of wild animals under national key protection, namely golden leopard, musk musk, vulture, bearded vulture, white-lipped deer, golden eagle, spot-tailed hazel, and 18 species of national second-level key protected wild animals, namely lynx, sambar deer, red deer, hairy crown deer, black kite, macaque, brown bear, yellow-throated marten, leopard cat, Chinese impala, Chinese iguana, white horse chicken, blue horse chicken, blood pheasant, wild boar, pig badger, wolf and sand fox. Among these animals, the golden leopard, the bearded vulture, the white-lipped deer, the spot-tailed hazelnut, the lynx, the brown bear, the white horse chicken, etc. are the first video records in the Marco River forest area.
The Marco River Forestry Bureau will increase the monitoring and investigation efforts to understand the number and range of activities of the snow leopard as soon as possible, so as to provide data support for scientific conservation work. At the same time, we will continue to increase the protection of forest resources and publicity, unite with the masses to continue to carry out special actions such as "protecting wild animals, cracking down on poaching and lawbreakers" and "clearing mountains and unwinding", enhance the awareness of the masses to protect, enhance the ecological protection and comprehensive management capabilities of natural protected areas, and contribute to the construction of national park demonstration provinces.
