Interview | a brief review of reading in 2016

Children who love books are happier

A few days ago, a good photographer who loves to read and take pictures published a small interview with me on "Someone Reads." Re-edit and forward here.

Good Actress: What are the categories of books you usually read?

Tsuchire: My interests are mainly in politics and law, humanities and ideas. As long as there is a new book in this area, I will pay attention to it.

Good Regent: How many books do you buy each month? What are the channels for buying books?

Tucheng: Books are bought irregularly, and there is no monthly purchase. If you calculate it, you will buy books of about 6,000 yuan a year, so most of them only buy and do not read, which is the same as the psychology of women buying clothes.

The e-commerce I most often visit is Dangdang, JD.com and China Book Network, I am afraid of trouble, these orders are more convenient. JD.com is the fastest, the previous day can be ordered the next day, China Book Network is very slow, but can find some old books, sometimes the discount is very low. But the discount thing is actually deceptive, because no matter how low the discount, you will always find that more than half of your favorite books are super priced, but you can't help but buy, so the overall price is flattened. Sometimes, in turn, I want to buy a book, but the price is high, in order to pull the price down and make my psychology feel better, I will match some books with low discounts, but the books with low discounts are not my favorite.

Good Regent: How long does a book last on average?

Tucheng: In general, one book a week, one book a week, one book a week, one book a week. Specifically, the time is determined by the characteristics of the book, and some practical books, read super fast, are turned over in a few hours. A little faster is the novel, basically one a day, but I read less novel. Some books, read slowly, the heart is not in a hurry to read it, read a little every day, which day can be read. For example, when I read poetry, that's how I read it.

Good Actress: When reading, do you have the habit of taking notes? Share your method?

Tucheng: In the past, I read books and rarely took notes, but at that time, I insisted on the crooked theory that "what I forgot is not important", so I only read and did not write. It turns out that most of the books are read and forgotten. In the last two years, I have started taking some notes, mainly by drawing the main points in the pages and writing some comments in the blanks.

I recommend reading a book to remember. You can take notes at will, take a book, or put it on a book. Special reminder, let go of the bad habit of cherishing the book, draw a line on the book or take notes, don't be reluctant. Only books that have drawn lines and memorized things have something to do with themselves.

The best way is to read the whole thing, but this has to pick the book, if each one is sorted out, it is simply impossible to read, the efficiency is too low. But there is no collation of a book, and the quality of reading is not high. So, you can sort out one book a month, based on how important the book is to you. After reading, you can try to cut from a certain angle and write some reading notes or experiences. In this way, you can force yourself to review the contents of the book, grasp the main idea of the book, and connect the messy fragmented knowledge in your brain.

Good Regent: How many books did you read this year?

Tucheng: I have not counted, and in the first half of the year, I also used reading notes and APP statistics, there are 50 books. Lazy in the second half of the year, there is no more. A total of 90 copies are estimated throughout the year.

Good Regent: Of the books I read this year, the one I want to share with you the most, can I name three? Why would you like to share each book?

Tucheng: I can't say that the ones I want to share with you the most should be the three books that I feel most beneficial to.

1. The Debate: Minutes of the U.S. Constitutional Convention

The book is thick, 804 pages. I am the book bought by the translator Yin Xuan, and Yilin Publishing House also published another book by Yin Xuan, "Federalism: A Review of the U.S. Constitution", which is also a large and thick book. From May 25 to September 17, 1787, the United States Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia and formulated the first written constitution in human history. At that time, 55 representatives from 13 U.S. states were represented. The author of Debate: Minutes of the U.S. Constitutional Convention is Virginia Representative James Madison. He faithfully documented the design of the federal government by 55 state delegates— later known as America's Founding Fathers, and recorded their speeches at their daily meetings.

2. Ten Lectures on Internet Thought

This book is different from the assortment of "Internet +" books on the market, it does not tell entrepreneurial stories, does not teach people to get rich, does not talk about Internet business management, does not talk about Internet thinking, does not teach content entrepreneurship methods, and does not even chase fashionable Internet technology - it sounds a bit like a hooligan, then what does it say - yes, it talks about ideas. What is the ideological basis of Internet technology, what is the sociological basis of the Internet, this is what it wants to explain. With the help of philosophy, sociology, economics, computer science, journalism and communication and other disciplines, the book analyzes the complexity of the Internet, social networks, modernity and other issues, which is full of enlightening significance and allows people to open the skylight of thought.

3. "Second-hand Time"

The author is the Nobel prize-winning Russian writer Alexievich. Reading this book is actually a metaphor for reading it. I feel very pessimistic that we are now just living in "second-hand time". In the mainstream of struggle, we have long forgotten that there are still some confused people, who have been omitted by the times, and their dreams have been omitted by the times. What exactly are we after and who is thinking? We were wrapped up and walked forward. This book made me reflect, at least once in a while, and think about what I really wanted.

Good actress: Your reading experience is very diligent, can you share how to write?

Tucheng: I wrote about 20 book reviews this year, if that's a book review. At the beginning, I planned to publish it in the supplement of the traditional media, but after we published 2 articles in the newspaper, I felt that I still did not meet the requirements, so I did not vote, after all, writing things can not be sent for the sake of hair, to have self-knowledge.

When I read my neighbors for the fifth anniversary, I said that one of the big changes after participating in the book club was that I didn't dare to share books in Weibo and WeChat circles, because I felt that many people around me read better than me and wrote better than me. Teacher Yang Zhao teased me: "That's because you are now writing a book review." "Not modesty, in fact, I am not qualified to talk about writing about reading experience, I can only talk about my own groping."

The first is to choose the right book. Not every book has to be written. Book selection must first have their own value judgments, books should conform to their own values, do not go with the flow, people feel that good books you do not have to keep up, otherwise it seems that you can't keep up with other people's ideas. Second, correct your own value judgments. This seems to contradict the previous sentence, but in fact does not conflict. Every bit of progress in one's own thinking is done in correction. Individuals immersed in personal thoughts are prone to extremism, cannot see universal values, cannot tolerate dissent, feel that the world is correct in their own ideas, close their minds, and cannot hear different voices. Your own judgment should be "corrected" with others and absorbed into a broader mind.

The second is to choose the angle. Write a book review or experience, the most taboo comprehensive coverage. It is meaningless to repeat the contents of a book again; trying to introduce the entire content of the book to everyone is purely to sell the book, not to write their own experience; trying to give the book a comprehensive evaluation from the aspects of culture, society, and value is also too ideal. Although you can also write to most people to read, you can mainly write it for yourself to see and help yourself clarify your thinking. So there is no need to write a review, a formal review, just find an angle to cut into, start from the place where you feel the most about yourself, and write it out.

The third is to make more modifications. Many articles are adapted, which is the experience of most writers. It's not a shameful thing to revise, and well-written text, with the exception of a few geniuses, is mostly modified. During the revision process, it is to revise the unclear parts of the brain again, which can promote attention the next time you write.

The fourth is to study diligently. After writing, read other people's book reviews and look at your own. Comparing the two, you can find out whether your ideas are unique and accurate, whether you grasp the gist of the original book, whether the road is open, and you can also find out what you need to strengthen, where other people's points are, and which ones in other people's knowledge systems you need to strengthen. There are many such words on Douban, and some are scattered throughout the network, and it is easy to find them. It is worth reminding that the comparison work should be done after you have written it yourself, and you cannot read the book reviews written by others before you start writing. Because we're not trying to write a perfect book review to be appreciated, it's about seeing if we have something in our stomach to share, and how many people's minds we can recall when we're alone. If you read the book review first, it is easy to have preconceptions, and when you really write, you can't tell which are your own ideas and which are learned to imitate.

Good Girl: What book clubs will you participate in? What are online and offline?

Tucheng: The most participating is reading neighbors, starting from more than a dozen issues, and now 50 issues, which have benefited a lot. I insisted on it well, and persistence had an effect, cultivating the habit of reading and the ability to distinguish between good and bad books. Last year, I worked with Shi Morning Tea (Qiu Xiaoshi, Yang Zhao, Green Tea) and a few beautiful women to read the neighbor's public account, and I participated in the editing of the manuscript, and I learned to look at reading, a book, and an author from a comprehensive and systematic perspective.

I read books online and participated in some, but the effect was not good. In fact, online reading is too casual, and I am not a person with strong self-management, so online book clubs are basically social more social than reading itself. It is recommended to liberate yourself from online book clubs and not be burdened by them.

Good Lady: I would like to ask you, the last time I read Pantsev's book with you, what do you think you have gained after reading it together?

Tucheng: Reading Pantsev's book is also "forced by the situation" - haha. Because we want to read with you, but the books we read are too different, the points of interest are different, and we can't find the books to read together. There are many books to choose from, and only Pantsev's book is the one I can read.

Pantsev used to be a media person, and when I wrote "Reading Together", I started from Pantsev's own growth experience and looked beyond the book itself to see his words. What I see in his book is that he was either the beginning of the Pantsev he is today, he had several stages, each of which was transcendent, beyond the past, and grew into another Pantsev.

There are some things I wrote in "Reading Together", and I was worried that Pantsev would not be happy to see it, but he didn't care at all, I thought too much. It also taught me an experience that when writing, you should cherish the deep-rooted prejudices in your own mind and don't be afraid of others being unhappy. In the article "Wu Xiaobo: Are you a businessman or a literati" that you posted today, Wu Xiaobo said that after criticizing Zong Qing, He provoked Mr. Zong to not want to see him now, but Wu Xiaobo did not suffer any losses because of this. Just write it, no one cares what you say.
