Kyle Walker: I want to justify my £50 million worth

Despite criticism from Roy Keane, Manchester City star Kyle Walker hopes to justify his £50m worth.

Walker played for Tottenham Hotspur for eight years before joining Manchester City in 2017.

The deal was worth around £50 million, making the Briton the world's most expensive defender at the time.

Walker has now made 190 appearances for Manchester City and is the Triple Crown winner in the Premier League. He is also a key player for England as he has now made 63 appearances on the international stage.

Still, Sky Sports commentator Keane has criticized the full-back in the past. Ahead of City's game against Liverpool on Sunday, he advised Walker to "at his own pace" to get himself out of danger:

"I've been criticizing him in the past," Keane said.

"He made too many mistakes, he relied on his own speed to get out of trouble, but his career has been very good.

"I'm very picky about defenders, especially when it's a major job.

'It annoys me and focuses – but he's a big player for Manchester City and England, so the kid got it right.

Walker told TalkSPORT that his £50m worth was "nothing" compared to today's market:

"With the price tag four or five years ago, there may be nothing now," Walker said.

"But at the time, the transfer fee from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester City was high. In the two years prior to that, Tottenham Hotspur surpassed Manchester City.

"When a team like Manchester City comes to you, the manager [Pep] speaks to you personally and says what he wants to achieve, what he wants to do with this team and the players he wants to bring in, it's just in one direction.

"I need something different, I've been at Tottenham for nine years and I want to change. I want to test myself at different clubs and hopefully I've proven that. I picked up some trophies on the way. ”
