Beijing News (Reporter Li Yan) On July 25, the 76th Venice International Film Festival announced the shortlist of films, and two Chinese films, "Lyceum Theatre" and "Jiyuantai No. 7", were shortlisted for the main competition unit. The festival will open with Hirokazu Kore-eda's The Truth and ending with Gissepe Capotonti's The Charred Orange Cult. It is reported that this year's film festival will be held from August 28 to September 7.
The main competition section includes Roman Polanski's new film "I Accuse"; Todd Phillips's new DC film "Joker", which has been scheduled for release in North America on October 4; "Interstellar Exploration" starring Brad Pitt and directed by James Gray; and an adaptation of South African writer J. Lee. M. Coetzee's novel of the same name, directed by Syro Guerra, director of "Snake's Embrace", and starring Mark Rylance, Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp and others, such as Waiting for the Barbarians.
In terms of Chinese films, "Lyceum Theatre", directed by Lou Ye and starring Gong Li, Zhao Youting, Zhang Songwen, Wang Chuanjun and others, was shortlisted for the main competition unit. This is the fourth time that Gong Li has been shortlisted for the main competition unit of the Venice Film Festival. On July 23, "Lyceum Theatre" was shortlisted for the special screening section of the Toronto Film Festival, which will have its North American premiere in Toronto.
The animated film "Jiyuantai No. 7", directed by Yang Fan, was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the Venice Film Festival after being shortlisted for the special screening unit of the 44th Toronto Film Festival. Voice actors include Zhao Wei, Zhang Aijia, Wu Yanzu, Jiang Wenli, Lin Dexin and so on.
In addition, Wan Ma Tse-dan's new film "Balloon" was also shortlisted for the Horizon section of the Venice Film Festival. This is the third time that Wan Ma Tse-dan has been shortlisted for the Venice Film Festival after "Tharlo" in 2015 and "Knocked Over a Sheep" in 2018. At the same time, the restored version of "Not Scattered" directed by Cai Liangming will be specially screened at the film festival.
