On January 30, 13 white cranes were monitored at one time in the internationally important wetland of Caidian Shenhu Lake, setting a new record for monitoring in previous years. The largest number of white cranes previously recorded was nine monitored in the Shenhu Wetland on January 9 this year.
White crane, also known as Siberian crane, national first-class protected bird, the distribution of the number in China is about 3,000, 98% of the white crane population in Jiangxi Poyang Lake wintering.
Wei Bin, director of the Hubei Wildlife Conservation Association, senior birdwatcher and ecological photographer, introduced that the white crane began to be found in November last year, and the amount of white cranes has become larger and larger so far, and two or three white cranes have just been found to be a family, generally blue birds with a young bird, and later found that there are 7, 9, and 12, but the number of white cranes this year is a relatively large one.
Nowadays, more and more white cranes choose to winter in Shenhu Wetland, which is closely related to the implementation of ecological protection policies such as ecological compensation, "three nets" demolition, and returning fishing to lakes in Shenhu Wetland, the ecological environment of the wetland has been effectively restored, the area suitable for white cranes to inhabit and feed has increased, and the relationship between humans and birds has been improved.
It is understood that the internationally important wetland of Caidian Shenhu Lake is mainly protected by typical wetland ecosystems and rare and endangered birds and their habitats. Up to now, a total of 9 species of national first-class protected animals have been recorded in the reserve, all of which are birds, and 29 species of national second-level protected animals, including 26 species of birds, 1 species of mammals, 1 species of fish, and 1 species of amphibians; there are 4 species of national key protected plants, namely the national second-level protected plants coarse-stemmed water fern, lotus, wild diamond and wild soybean.
