The fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity will hold a high-level meeting, a leaders' summit and a ministerial plenary meeting today (12th). Participants expressed their expectation that the conference would form a clear policy direction for biodiversity conservation.

Many participants expressed their expectation that the meeting would build consensus and promote all parties to reach common goals on global biodiversity conservation.
Professor Xue Dayuan, School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Minzu University of China: The three major objectives of the Convention on Biodiversity Conservation are the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources, as well as fair and equitable sharing. Better conservation (of biodiversity) depended on the achievement of the third objective, which developing countries had been hoping for.
Yang Zhengquan, Secretary of the Party Group of yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, and president: I believe that through the convening of this conference, we will advocate the concept that green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains on a global scale, advocate the joint construction of a community of human and natural life, a community of human destiny, and advocate ecological priority and green development, a development model in which man and nature live in harmony, which will become a consensus of all mankind and the world.
Pei Shengji, researcher at the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences: The protection of biodiversity is a matter of common destiny for mankind, so setting the 2030 target is very arduous, but it must be done no matter how arduous it is.
INGE Anderson, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme: The goal is to reach a very ambitious but very clear agreement for a post-2020 biodiversity framework. That means money, technical support, and ambition. At the same time, we hope to have a milestone outcome in 2030 and 2050, respectively.
