On June 30, according to South Korean media reports, Sun Jiaren (Gain), a member of the well-known Korean girl group Brown Eyed Girls, was fined for illegal injection of anesthetics (propofol). Propofol is classified as a banned drug in South Korea.
Earlier this year, South Korea's Suwon District Court issued a brief order to fine Sun Jiaren, who was handed over to summary trial for allegedly violating drug control laws. A brief order refers to a procedure in which, if the offence is less serious, a formal trial is not conducted, but rather a procedure for imposing penalties such as fine-confiscation.
In June 2020, A was transferred to court on suspicion of selling three boxes of the general anesthetic Atomidate-lipuro injection to Sun Jiaren for 1.5 million won at a plastic surgery department in Seoul, which he ran, and 490 Etomidates (24.5 million won) to patients who visited the hospital on 21 occasions since October 2019.
For about a year from August 2019, A was also suspected of injecting the dependent drug propofol into four people, including Sun Jiaren.
It is reported that Sun Jiaren was exempted from punishment on the grounds of "only as a means of treatment", but after the fact of his injection of propofol was ascertained, he was finally prosecuted!
Brown Eyed Girls debuted in 2006 and subsequently released albums such as "Your Story", "Sixth Sense", "RE_vive", etc., which received a lot of attention and is one of the few long-lived girl groups in the Korean music scene.
