On the afternoon of October 9, the Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic, Antonio Costa, who was on a state visit to China, inaugurated the "China-Portugal Film Exhibition" at the Art Theater of the China Film Archive.

Also present at the unveiling ceremony were Tong Gang, deputy director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television; Luis Filipe de Castro Mendes, Minister of Culture of Portugal; Cai Run, Chinese Ambassador to Portugal; and Jorge Torres Pereira, Ambassador of Portugal to China. The "China Portugal Film Exhibition" is jointly sponsored by the Film Bureau of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the Portuguese Film And Audiovisual Administration, the China Film Archive, the Xiaoxiang Film Group and the Portuguese Film Archive. From October 9 to October 30, the film festival will be screened at the Art Cinema of The China Film Archive in Beijing and the Tianma Store, Dongtang Store and Apollo Store of Changsha Xiaoxiang International Cinema.

According to Zhang Hongsen, director of the Film Bureau of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the "China•Portugal Film Festival" was held in accordance with the agreement reached between relevant Chinese and Portuguese parties to hold film festivals. In September last year, the China Film Archive and Xiaoxiang Film Group jointly held a grand "Portugal China Film Exhibition" in Lisbon, Portugal, and 32 films shot in Different Periods of China were screened in two theaters in Lisbon for a month. A year later, the "China•Portugal Film Festival" came to Beijing and Changsha as scheduled.

According to Ms. Philomena Serras Pereira, Director General of the Portuguese Film and Audiovisual Directorate, the China-Portugal Film Festival will be divided into three sections: the Portuguese film master Manuel de Oliveira Memorial Unit, the Classic Retrospective Unit and the Contemporary New Works, with a total of 24 Portuguese films, all of which are the most representative works of Portugal, including the Golden Bear-nominated film "Letter from the War", the pioneering work of The Portuguese New Film "Lisbon Love" and the specially planned silent film soundtrack event "Maria at sea" and other classics in the history of Portuguese cinema.

Minister Luis Felipe Castro Mondes of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture pointed out that the holding of the film festival will provide a platform for communication and exchange between film and television practitioners in the two countries, and promote the economic and cultural relations between the two countries to take another step forward.

Tong Gang, deputy director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, stressed that with the continuous development of President Xi Jinping's major "Belt and Road" initiative, the cooperation and exchanges between China and Portugal will be more extensive, and the film will also carry more beautiful expectations of China and Portugal.
