Blessed are fans of Thai cinema, with the two-week "Disordered Tropics – Thai Authors Film Week" kicking off on April 9, with 12 films to be unveiled in very different styles, all premiering in Shanghai, six of which are the first screenings in mainland China. It is reported that this is the first retrospective Thai film festival in China, and all the films selected are some important moments and masterpieces in the history of Thai cinema, not only with a large span of time, but also include important directors in Thailand, which will make domestic film fans and audiences live a "Thai addiction".
Opening film "Santi Veena Santi-Vina"
Thailand's national treasure film "Santi-Veena" is the opening film of the festival. It is understood that this is the first film in Thailand to be shot on color 35 mm film, and the first film in the history of Thai cinema to win an international award at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival held in Tokyo in 1954. After many years of being lost, three copies found in the UK, Russia and China were restored in 4K over a period of four years and premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Five years later, this 4K digitally restored copy will premiere in Chinese mainland and will be highly anticipated by audiences.
Shanghai Cinema Will focus on the screening of 7 film festival films such as "High Noon Development", "69 Two-Headed Hook", "Four Teenagers Who Return to God", "Thai Love Songs", "Railway Sleeper", "Mekong Hotel" and "Wonderful Town"
It is worth mentioning that the two works directed by the famous Thai artist director Apicha Welashaku, "Noon Development" and "Mekong Hotel", are the key films of this film festival, which will be screened in two rounds at Shanghai Cinema City and Red Star Film World (Wuzhong Road Branch). Other films such as "Pirate Master", "Railway Sleeper", "69 Two-Headed Hook", "Big Citizen", "Tears of the Black Tiger" have also aroused the enthusiasm of fans and audiences. 12 films with a very Thai humanistic style have been officially sold at 12:00 on March 26, with ticket prices of 65 yuan or 75 yuan, less than an hour after the ticketing, and some pre-sales have exceeded 70%.
