Let the last journey of life be filled with love and companionship

Information Times News (reporter He Rui) walked into the Corning ward on the 7th floor of Shiqiao Hospital in Panyu District, crossed the corridor, pushed open the ward, and the reporter saw that Kuang Shengli was wearing an orange volunteer vest printed with the words "Love and Companionship" and "Ten Square Edges", sitting in front of a hospital bed, chatting with the elderly lying on the bed, while massaging the neck of the elderly.

Since the end of 2013, Kuang Shengli has become a volunteer who provides hospice care, and so far, he has served hundreds of elderly people. In June this year, he officially introduced the operation mode of hospice care in Beijing Shifangyuan into Guangzhou, established Guangzhou Shifangyuan, cultivated a volunteer team, and went to hospitals and nursing homes to carry out hospice services to help patients alleviate physical and mental pain to the greatest extent and make them calmly complete the last journey of life.

<b>Care for the last journey of life</b>

The Kangning Ward of Shiqiao Hospital in Panyu District has 3 floors and a total of 100 beds. Lying on the hospital bed was a group of people whose lives were coming to an end, including the elderly, the youth, and even the underage children.

"Take your time, no rush. Let's come and see you and stay with you for a while. Kuang Shengli sat on the edge of Chen Bo's bed, gently caressing Chen Bo's legs with his hands, while encouraging Chen Bo to move his legs. Mr. Chen, 78, was admitted to Corning Ward in November 2015 and has been providing hospice services since March.

"The volunteer first accompanied the mother-in-law in the next bed, and later found that Chen Bo had been watching us and seemed to be eager for someone to communicate with him, so later I and other volunteers began to provide services for Chen Bo on a regular basis, as long as there were volunteers he would be very happy." Children come mainly to pay money, greetings, there will be very little communication, but in fact, this exchange is particularly important for the elderly. Kuang Shengli said.

<b>Set up an organization and become a full-time public welfare person</b>

Prior to 2013, Kuang Shengli was a psychological counselor who conducted psychological counseling services for various groups of people in the form of workshops. In participating in various psychological lectures and forums, Kuang Shengli came into contact with Beijing Shifangyuan by chance and learned about hospice care. At the end of 2013, Kuang Shengli began to take advantage of the business trip to participate in the volunteer training of Beijing Shifangyuan and participate in hospice services. After receiving training in Beijing, Kuang Shengli also gradually moved this model to Guangzhou, and began to organize volunteers to go to hospitals and nursing homes to provide hospice care services for seriously ill and dying people.

In March 2015, Beijing Shifangyuan came to Guangzhou for inspection, and after in-depth exchanges with relevant responsible persons, Kuang Shengli decided to officially introduce the management and service system of Beijing Shifangyuan into Guangzhou. On June 30 this year, Guangzhou Shifangyuan Elderly Soul Care Center was established, with Kuang Shengli as the chairman and officially becoming a full-time public welfare person.

At present, Guangzhou Shifangyuan Elderly Soul Care Center has set up service points in Panyu Shiqiao Hospital, Haizhu Jiangnan Hospital, Yuexiu Hongsheng Nursing Home and other places, and will organize volunteers to provide hospice care services for seriously ill and dying people every week, and the volunteers of the center have also grown to more than 500 people.

<b>"No analysis, no judgment, no definition"</b>

Mr. Gan, 34, suffers from cancer and has been treated for many years to scatter his family wealth, but he still has not been able to exchange for health. After that, Mr. Gan came to the Corning Ward of Shiqiao Hospital in Panyu District, where he completed the last journey of his life. In the communication with Mr. Gan, Kuang Shengli felt that his heart was full of unwillingness, pain and struggle. In the early days, Kuang Shengli helped him soothe his emotions through chatting, music and other methods, and gradually, Mr. Gan's inner emotions were released. Three weeks later, Mr. Gan passed away peacefully.

For the end-of-life service provided by Shifangyuan, Kuang Shengli used the word "inaction". Different from ordinary visits, there are 18 volunteer service specifications for hospice volunteers, including remembering not to pity the elderly, respecting the elderly, not touching privacy, not making promises to the elderly, and not leaving phone numbers. "We ask volunteers to accept whatever situation they see, not to analyze, not to judge, not to define, not to be affected by the people they serve. Let the departing people face it calmly, and let the participating volunteers know more about the meaning of life. ”

In the face of dying people, Kuang Shengli suggested that family members should learn to "apologize, love, and say goodbye." "People will be full of fear of death, and this time should make him feel love."
