Beijing, 26 Oct (Xinhua) -- President Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on 26 October.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China attaches great importance to the development of Sino-French relations. Since last year, we have maintained contacts through various means, and the important consensus reached on bilateral relations is being vigorously implemented and important progress has been made. At present, the international situation is changing rapidly, and our timely communication and coordination on major issues is conducive to steering the rudder of Sino-French relations and injecting more stability into the world situation.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and France should promote the relevant cooperation process under the premise of doing a good job in epidemic prevention and control, consolidate cooperation in traditional fields such as civil nuclear energy and aerospace, and expand cooperation in new fields such as artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, and marine. China is willing to continue to carry out cooperation with France in biodiversity conservation, carry out in-depth green cooperation, implement global development initiatives, and carry out trilateral cooperation for Africa and other regions. China and France should also support each other in running the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Paris Olympic Games.

Xi Jinping stressed that several major events in the recent international arena have once again shown that the French side is right to advocate the strategic autonomy of the EU. Through continuous high-level communication and dialogue, China and the EU should enhance understanding and mutual trust, reduce misunderstandings and miscalculations, properly manage differences, strengthen political guidance for China-EU relations, and ensure that China-EU relations are stable and far-reaching. The two sides should closely follow the needs of Chinese and European enterprises and people, further release the potential of cooperation in the fields of connectivity, digital technology, green environmental protection, scientific and technological innovation, health care and other fields, and expand the scope of cooperation in China-EU relations. It is hoped that the French side will play an active role in promoting the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.

Macron congratulated China on successfully hosting the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity Summit in Kunming. The French side is firmly committed to promoting the development of EU-China relations in a constructive manner, to properly managing and resolving differences through strengthening dialogue at all levels, to deepening EU-China cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, climate change and biodiversity conservation, and hopes to strengthen coordination with China on the G20 Leaders' Italy Summit and the Glasgow United Nations Climate Change Conference. The French side is willing to work with China to promote more results in pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in relevant fields, and hopes that the EU-China investment agreement will enter into force and be implemented at an early date. The French side supports China's successful hosting of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
