Foreword to the exhibition
"National Fine Arts Exhibition" (referred to as the National Art Exhibition) is the most authoritative and largest national exhibition in china's art industry. Since the first edition was held in 1949, it has been held thirteen times so far, and each edition has produced many outstanding works of art and artists. After 70 years of spring and autumn, the national art exhibition not only condenses the history of the development of Modern and Contemporary Chinese art, but also reflects the fusion of art and the times after the collision, and promotes the historic transformation of Chinese art from traditional to modern forms. Jiangsu has produced many excellent works for successive national art exhibitions, and the works of many Jiangsu painters have been selected and awarded at previous national art exhibitions, enriching the style innovation of Different Stages of Chinese Art.
In order to display and disseminate the unique aesthetic interests of Jiangsu culture and depict the development process of Jiangsu art in the era, the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum launched the collection of Jiangsu artists selected for previous national art exhibitions in 2020. On the basis of the collection of previous art exhibitions, the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum has broadened its collection ideas and collected Jiangsu painters throughout the province to be selected for previous national art exhibitions and award-winning art works, including Chinese paintings, oil paintings, prints and watercolor (pastel) paintings. The collection work has received positive response and strong support from Jiangsu painters. A total of 130 works were collected, including 11 Chinese paintings, 17 oil paintings, 60 prints, and 42 watercolor (pastel) paintings. The exhibition will focus on the 60 fine prints collected by the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, of which 47 are selected works for the national art exhibition, 3 are nominated, 4 are excellent awards, 1 is silver award, and 4 are bronze awards. Through these works, a magnificent picture of the development of Jiangsu printmaking will be unfolded for the audience.
The national art exhibition has always paid attention to the development and progress of the times, guided painters to attach importance to the expression of the spirit of the times, paid attention to inheriting traditions, and absorbed the essence of art from all sides, aiming to convey positive values and cultural ideals to the society and the broad masses of the people with fine art products. Therefore, this exhibition mainly presents the following characteristics: First, it involves a large number of sessions, and the works exhibited come from the eight national art exhibitions participated in by Jiangsu region in the past 40 years, covering the fine works of different ages and regions in Jiangsu. Second, the quality of art is high, and the Jiangsu artists who have participated in the exhibition have integrated their creative enthusiasm into the practice of their works, and have created many high-quality fine works in the pursuit and repeated tempering of art, and have been selected or even awarded in national art exhibitions. The third is to closely follow the pulse of the times, and the exhibited works with the themes of scientific and technological innovation, humanistic care, well-off construction, and harmonious life vividly reproduce the wonderful and moving moments in real life. Fourth, close to life, the national art exhibition adheres to the creative concept of going deep into life and taking root in the people, and guides Jiangsu artists to create works that are popular with the broad masses of the people and are grounded. Fifth, Jiangsu has strong characteristics, and a considerable number of works focus on Jiangsu characteristic culture, highlighting the atmosphere of regional life, vividly reflecting rural customs and customs, and showing the charm of Jiangsu's cultural diversity. Taking the eight-session National Art Exhibition of Printmaking as a clue, the exhibition aims to present the aesthetic pursuit of all stages of the development of Jiangsu printmaking, excavate the connection between the new Jiangsu printmaking and the tradition, and show the stylistic characteristics of the unique art world of Jiangsu printmaking.
