Black shell shrimp is actually a general term for the native shrimp around us. There may be some black shell shrimp whose color will be different, but a "black" word dooms their color to be almost all dark. Although the black shell shrimp does not have a gorgeous appearance, many friends who like to breed aquarium pets like to raise some black shell shrimp in their own tanks.
Why do we all choose black shell shrimp with unremarkable appearance and little ornamental value? There must be something special about the black shell shrimp that attracts us, what attracts us? And how do we raise black-shelled shrimp? What is the specific method? We all know that the most important thing in raising aquarium pets is water quality, and the most "satisfactory" place for us to raise black shell shrimp is that it does not have high requirements for "water quality". After all, the black shell shrimp in the wild live in the natural streams, rivers and lakes, with tenacious vitality, and even in some "stinky ditches" can also see the figure of black shell shrimp.
However, it is also because the water quality in their native land is natural water, and the content of chlorine, nitrogen and other gases in the water body is low, so if it is raised in the aquarium at home, the chlorine vapor in the water should be volatilized before adding tap water in the fish tank, the simplest way is to dry and aerate, this everyone knows!
As for how to change the water, how often to change the water, this is even simpler. If the equipment is adequate, there is an oxygen supply, and there is a filtration system (which does not need to be very good), then the water can be changed every six months or even longer. You know, black shell shrimp like "old water", so as long as the amount of dissolved oxygen in the fish tank water body is sufficient, you can not change the water often to ensure the amount of dissolved oxygen. Of course, if there is no oxygen supply equipment, you can also choose to raise less, so that the density is reduced and the oxygen will be relatively sufficient.
We say that raising black shell shrimp is simple, another important reason is that we do not need to feed or feed the black shell shrimp every day, to know that they themselves are fed by algae, as long as the fish tank has algae and other microorganisms, you do not have to feed specially, and most of the fish tanks for breeding aquarium pets are algae, no special feeding, plus the cleaning of black shell shrimp, the fish tank water will naturally be much cleaner, so there is no need to change the water frequently.

Because the black shell shrimp is native to nature, the temperature difference of nature is relatively large, so the water temperature range in which it can survive is also large, about fifteen to twenty-nine degrees Celsius. But, remember: black-shelled shrimp are afraid of the heat! The water temperature should not exceed thirty degrees Celsius, because the water temperature is too high, the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water will be sharply reduced, and the lack of oxygen of the black shell shrimp is dangerous.
Many friends have asked me, why do the shrimp that I just bought back die after being put into the fish tank for a few days? If you are too warm and over-water, if your fish tank water temperature is stable and there is aeration equipment, then it is still not enough, almost all because they are not adapted to the environment.
The life of the black shell shrimp is more than a year (my personal experience), encounter the black shell shrimp is not suitable for your fish tank environment and die, you do not have to panic, to know the survival of the fittest, they did not survive, do not blame themselves, can only show that they are weak, even if they survive, they can not raise for a few days. If you are a black shell shrimp caught in the wild, it is simpler, directly use the ready-made, where to catch where to bring some water back to the water, adapt to a few days no problem.
As I mentioned earlier, many people like to mix black shell shrimp with other aquarium pets because it feeds on algae and acts as a "cleaner" in the fish tank, which can control the crazy growth of algae and reduce the pollution of water quality.
However, it is important to note that although polyculture with some ornamental fish is possible, it is necessary to choose a mild fish polyculture such as peacock fish, and cannot choose to be polycultured with carnivorous fish. After all, the black shell shrimp is relatively small, as the saying goes: "Big fish eat small fish, small fish eat shrimp rice." "If black-shelled shrimp and carnivorous fish are polycultured, they become the food in the belly of other fish in minutes.
We all know that black-shelled shrimp mainly feed on algae, and algae are different, from algae associated with aquatic plants to planktonic algae that grow in water. Although they will eat, but there is also a difference between love to eat and do not like to eat, in general, black shell shrimp prefer to eat fluffy algae, so do not expect all the algae to help you nibble clean, unless your black shell shrimp is enough and hungry.
Of course, if you raise black shell shrimp as a tool for algae control like me, then you can also buy some shrimp feed, but don't feed too much, after all, their staple food is algae. During the growth process, black shell shrimp are more like the sun, you can properly let them bask in the sun.
But pay attention to: black shell shrimp molting is very fragile, there must be a dark space to hide, it is best to keep the fish tank dark, otherwise they will be stimulated by light and water temperature rise to speed up the molting speed, which is very dangerous for black shell shrimp, the mortality rate when molting is high, which is one of the difficulties for us to raise black shell shrimp.

Here we are going to talk about the environmental arrangement of the black shell shrimp in the fish tank. Black shell shrimp are relatively timid and undergo many molting shells during their growth. When I first go out, I change the shell about three to five days, about two or three weeks when I am a little older, and about once a month when I am an adult. Newly shelled, they are more fragile, preferring (having to) hide between aquatic weeds, rockeries and rocks, in fact, to avoid attacks.
The life expectancy of more than a year requires more than ten times to change the shell, so the shelling of the black shell shrimp is still quite frequent. We had better put more aquatic weeds and stones in the fish tank, and lay more sand and gravel at the bottom of the fish tank to provide as much hiding place as possible. Especially aquatic weeds, we must put more, that is, you can provide them with some shelter, but also provide them with food, the photosynthesis of aquatic weeds can also increase the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, in one fell swoop.
As for the shrimp shells of the black shell shrimp, we don't need to deliberately clean it up. These shrimp shells are rich in calcium, and they eat themselves as food. Unless there is a large number of black shell shrimp molting together, producing a large number of shrimp shells and accumulating at the bottom of the fish tank, which cannot be decomposed and treated, resulting in deterioration of water quality, this requires us to manually salvage these shrimp shells.

Finally, there is the problem of black shell shrimp breeding. Don't underestimate them, although they are small, they reproduce very quickly. In a normal sheltered environment, they can be born about once a month, and dozens of adult black-shelled shrimp can make your small fish tank burst once or twice normally.
Newborn pups are very small, transparent, invisible to the naked eye without looking closely, and we don't have to deliberately feed the newborn shrimp, they will eat the algae in the fish tank by themselves, maybe a day or two away, you will obviously feel that they have grown a lot.
