On August 1, the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the preliminary list of candidates for the 2021 Academician Co-election of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Cao Rong, who was born in Changting County, Fujian Province, and attended primary and secondary schools, was listed among them, becoming one of the 29 members of the Ministry of Chemistry; Changting realized the dream of academicians is getting closer and closer.

It is reported that Dr. Cao Rong was born in Changting in 1966, graduated from Changting No. 1 Middle and High School in 1981, graduated from the Department of Modern Chemistry of the University of Science and Technology of China in 1986 with a bachelor's degree, received a master's degree and a doctorate degree from the Fujian Institute of Material Structure of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989 and 1993, and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Science and Technology of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 1994 to 1996; 2000— In 2002, he was appointed as a special researcher and senior expert of the Japan Promotion Association (JSPS) at the International Research Center for Physical Sciences of Nagoya University in Japan; he is currently the director, researcher, doctoral supervisor, academic committee member of the Fujian Institute of Physical Structure of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, an academic committee member, and a vice chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese Peasants' and Workers' Democratic Party; and on May 15, 2018, he was appointed as the director of the Institute of Urban Environment.

Previously, Changting produced a Changting quasi-academician, his name was Zhang Cunhao, (1928-), Shandong Wudi people, in 1940 with his uncle Fu Ying (a well-known chemist at home and abroad), aunt Zhang Jin (doctor of chemistry) came to Changting, and transferred to Fujian Changting Middle School (now Changting No. 1 Middle School) to study. In 1943, at the age of 15, Zhang Cunhao was admitted to the Department of Chemistry of Xiamen University (then running a school in Changting) from the second year of high school, and transferred to the Department of Chemical Engineering of Chongqing Central University the following year. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, won the highest national science and technology award in 2013, a famous physical chemist, has long been engaged in research in the fields of catalysis, rocket propellant, chemical laser, molecular reaction kinetics, and has achieved a number of international advanced achievements. In 2004, when Changting No. 1 Middle School celebrated its centennial, he wrote down "Tingjiang River Water Bilong Mountain Qing, Alma Mater Teachers and Leaders With The Same Window" to express his deep nostalgia.
