Lee Ka-chiu, Secretary for Security of Hong Kong: Cowards will eventually pay the price

【Article/Observer Network Ju Feng】Nine months after the "Hong Kong National Security Law" came into effect, a new wind blew in the SAR.

Li Jiachao, director of the Hong Kong Security Bureau, said in an exclusive interview with the South China Morning Post on the 15th that after the implementation of the national security law, Hong Kong returned to normal life from turmoil, and many traitors and hong Kong rioters retired and fled.

"Cowards", Li Jiachao called those troublemakers who made a lot of trouble in 2019 and ran fast in 2020, "they will eventually pay the price." ”

Li Jiachao added that the relevant departments will continue to remain vigilant, "There are still people in this city who preach the idea of chaos in Hong Kong and maintain contact with foreign forces." ”

Since the National Security Law came into effect on June 30 last year, the Hong Kong Police National Security Department has arrested 100 people and prosecuted 57 people in accordance with the law. The law provides the basis for punishing separatists, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces, and violators face up to life imprisonment.

Lee told the South China Morning Post that the "strong deterrent effect" of the national security law has returned Hong Kong to normal life, and those who have put the city in a state of crisis have been driven away.

"Before and after the promulgation of the [National Security Law], we witnessed those people, foreigners, suddenly leaving Hong Kong and fleeing overseas. It (the National Security Law) also prevents foreign (chaotic Port) money from coming in... Organizers of events inside and outside Hong Kong cannot continue to do things. ”

"You can see that many traitors and rioters in Hong Kong either declare their 'retirement' or flee."

"The longer you go on, the clearer you can see things — you can see that foreign intervention is actually one of the key factors in the kind of violence and atrocities that happen in Hong Kong." Li Jiachao said bluntly.

Li Jiachao added that the Hong Kong police and other discipline departments have always maintained a high degree of vigilance against the collusion of forces inside and outside Hong Kong. "We don't bury our heads in the sand. We are aware of all security threats. The key is to nip these in the bud. ”

Li Jiachao acknowledged that law enforcement is complex and challenging. For the reconnaissance department, "in that short period of time, there is a need to deal with 'state-level players'." Those people are experienced in disrupting. ”

"The problems facing Hong Kong have accumulated for 20 years, during which time there is no national security law." Li Jiachao said.

Li Jiachao said bluntly that insufficient manpower is a problem, because the national security department needs not only experienced and conscientious people, but also credible people to prevent infiltration.

Asked by the South China Morning Post whether all the criminals were brought to justice, Li Jiachao said, "We have begun to deal with it, and I think it is the most serious case." I can't go into more details. But those people will be severely punished by the law for what they do. ”

After the national security law came into effect, Hong Kong rioter Hui Zhifeng absconded to Britain and went into exile in Australia; Luo Guancong claimed to have been granted "British asylum." Both are currently charged under the National Security Law and are saddled with criminal charges.

After former "speculator" legislator Kwok Wing-hing was stripped of his parliamentary qualifications, he announced that he had "withdrawn from politics but had no intention of leaving Hong Kong," but was found fleeing to Canada shortly after. Hong Kong police are investigating him.

"They are cowards and dare not face the legal consequences. This is not the same as what they had sworn before. Before they claimed to the world that their actions were for justice, now their 'justice' is to evade legal punishment, which is too shameless. Li Jiachao said. They will eventually be punished and pay a price. ”

In addition, Li Jiachao also called Xu Zhifeng and Luo Guancong "traitors", colluding with foreign governments, and actually being used by foreign forces.

April 15 is the first national security education day for the whole people after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, and it is also the landmark day for the first time that the Hong Kong SAR National Security Committee has held the festival. The theme of the "National Security Education Day 2021" in Hong Kong is "National Security, Protecting Our Homeland - Improving the Election System and Implementing patriots Governing Hong Kong".
