Sun Yue was born in 1930 in Yuyao, Zhejiang Province, and graduated from Tianjin Zhida High School. In 1949, he came to Taiwan with the Kuomintang army and joined the Buffalo Troupe, where he began his acting career. Sun Yue participated in many classic movies before his death, including Dumb Uncle in "Hitchhiking", Uncle Kung in "Dragon and Tiger Storm", and Luo Yawen in "Outside the Window".

Since becoming a film in the 1960s, Sun Yue has acted in hundreds of movies for more than 30 years, often playing villain roles in the early days and then switching to comedy roles. In 1969, Sun Yue won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 7th Golden Horse Awards for his film "Yangtze River Storm". According to Taiwan media, due to appearance restrictions, Sun Yue's early role was mostly limited to the villain, which also made the daughter who was studying in elementary school at the time ridiculed, once quarreled with male classmates, and was pointed at by the other party to scold "your father is a villain", and then Sun Yue as long as he took the child out, he stipulated that he should wear a mask and wear a hat, and even dared to call him "uncle" to the outside world, so that Sun Yue was physically and mentally traumatized.

In 1983, Sun Yue starred in the tragic song and dance film "Hitchhiking" directed by Yu Jieping, playing the dumb uncle of the veteran veteran of the male lead, and won the Best Actor Award at the 20th Golden Horse Awards. In 1984, he starred in "The Second Spring of Old Mo", as Mo Zhankui, once again earning tears from the audience, and the film won the Best Feature Film Award at the 21st Golden Horse Awards. After that, he cooperated with a number of Hong Kong directors and successively took over the filming of "Dragon and Tiger Storm" (1987) directed by Lin Lingdong and "Dragon Drama Phoenix" (1989) directed by Hong Jinbao.

It is reported that Sun Yue has been in poor physical condition for more than a decade, often hospitalized with fever, and about 4 to 7 times a year he is hospitalized in the emergency department.
