The 20th Venice International Film Festival was held in August 1959 on the Lido Island.

The Golden Lion Award for Best Film at this year's FILM Festival awards was awarded twice at a time, which is the first time in the history of the festival that the grand prize double yolk egg. And both award-winning films were directed by Italian directors, making Italian cinema the biggest winner of the festival.
Master Ingmar Bergman finally reached the podium at this film festival after several nominations. His film "Faces" won the Jury Special Award and the Pasinettti Award for Best Picture.
