Transfiguration butterfly, also known as glass-winged butterfly.
As the name suggests, its biggest feature is the pair of crystal clear wings.
We all know that butterflies have a lot of tiny scales on their wings – which is why most butterflies look colorful.
So on the other hand, the reason why the wings of the transient butterfly are as transparent as glass, is there no scale on it?
NO,NO, NO~
The significance of the scales is not only in color (used in camouflage, or in turn, to scare off predators), but also in helping butterflies "waterproof".
If there is no protection from scales at all, the wings of the butterfly will stick together when it is drenched in rain, which is called a discomfort.
As can be seen through the microscope, there is a clear boundary between the transparent and opaque areas on the wings of the transient butterfly (as shown in the figure above on the far left).
These two areas are made up of two different types of scales.
Transparent areas are covered with sparse, thin scales that look like hair, either single and crossed (as in the middle of the image above);
Black opaque areas are covered with overlapping leaf-like scales (on the right side of the image above).

To be transparent, it is necessary to minimize any scattered or reflected light.
The sparse rotating scales of transient butterflies are covered with a transparent wing film, and the texture of the wing film is very helpful in reducing reflection.
The texture of this membrane is very exquisite.
If the surface of the membrane is flat, light will be reflected off the surface, which will weaken the transparency.
How does the transient butterfly solve it?
Then make it uneven.
It can be seen that the transparent area on the wings of the transient butterfly has a raised wax in a layer. They make it easier for light to pass through the wings than to reflect out.
If this layer of wax is peeled off, the transparency is much worse.
By the way, don't look through the winged butterfly, its wings can withstand objects that weigh 40 times their own weight – really tough for butterflies!
Transient butterflies are uncommon and are mainly distributed in Central America. A pink transient butterfly can be found in the Amazon that looks like it's painted with "blush."
