Disney will remake the live-action version of "Star Baby"

Time Network News Disney is preparing to remake the 2002 animation film "Star Baby" into a live-action version, and is currently negotiating with Zhu Haowei, director of "Picking Gold", and it is not yet certain that the film will be released in theaters or on the streaming platform Disney+. Mike Van Weiss has previously written the script, and Disney is currently looking for a new screenwriter to adapt it. The two producers of the live-action version of Aladdin, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, will both serve as producers of the film.

Set in Hawaii, Star Baby is about a lonely 5-year-old girl, Lilo, who has a friendship with an alien stray dog, "Strange" (Stitch). The live-action remake was officially announced in 2018, when the plan was to launch at Disney+, but now the plan may change. Filming was originally scheduled to begin in Hawaii this fall, but disney postponed filming as the end of the pandemic was far from over.

The "Strange" in the animated version of "Star Baby" is voiced by the film's director/screenwriter Chris Sanders, and Disney wants him to return to dubbing this time, although this news has not yet been confirmed, and the role of "Rare" in the live-action version of the movie should be computer CG production. Many fans have questioned the quality of Disney's live-action films, and both "The Lion King" and "Aladdin" received a lot of negative reviews before their release, but the box office performance later was much better than Disney expected.
